I'll be sixty-three in April.
But as long as I still bend my body enough to get in & out of a "sports" car, I'll do it.
Just for the record.
Ist car - Dad's '51 Buick Roadmaster - 3 tons, no power steering. After that - '53 Olds 88, '57 Buick Special - three on the tree (rare), '59 Olds Dynamic 88 (drove it coast-to-coast & back in total comfort), '53 Morris Minor convertible, '57 VW (tiny rear window, folding sunroof - paid $300 & sold for $300 in Germany - probably worth $30,000 today), '66 Fiat 850 Coupe, '56 Mercedes 190 sedan, '68 Fiat 124 Coupe, '72 Opel Manta 1900 - last new car I ever bought. '70 Olds Cutlass (got 236K miles outta' the bugger), '77 Olds Delta (World's slowest car), '81 Plymouth Champ - Twin stick - Fun car, '82 VW Scirocco (inherited from daughter), '87 Chrysler LeBaron GTS sedan (non-turbo - got totalled in a month) '87 Chrysler LeBaron GTS sedan TURBO!(This is more like it!) Great car - still going strong at 230K miles when sold. '88 Plymouth Voyager van - still in driveway. '92 Subaru SVX - finally got my dream car. '93 240SX - just passed inspection, after spending another $600 on the $100 investment. Now we go see if an old fart can drift.
Ron.
Ron, I really enjoyed reading your list. Some very interesting carsand a few we have in common. I had a 72 Opel Manta as a company "yard" car many many moons ago (fastback with a 4 spd - I loved it).I eventually replaced the Manta with a 1970 olds cutlass- yellow with a half vinyl roof and a 350 v-8. Fast and comfortable, very numb steering but it could be steered with a finger. I loved the Fiat 124 Coupe. I worked for a Fiat dealer as a kid, and drove several of them. Though the spiders were far big sellers, I thought the coupes were way more more cool.
Same thing for the 850 coupe. Fun and nimble, but uncommon.ones I drove tended to make instaneous lane changes in crosswinds. But they were a hoot to drive.
How about posting a pic or two of your SVX? Very sexy car.
Regards.
