approximately how many miles do you change your engine oil and filter? Do you follow the manual maintenance?

I have a 2.5 S, so I am just wondering

I have it done every time it goes in for scheduled maintenance. Which is slowly becoming more and more expensive with the seemingly not so important BS work that the Nissan dealership tacks on each service. But yea like the previous post stated 3k-5k. Anybody know the type of oil Nissan dealerships put in the car. Thinking about eventually switching to synthetic if it will benefit the car.

Son't bother. I ran the Nissan spec whatever it was for $29.99 at the Don Davis Nissan dealer here for the 103k miles I had my car from '09 brand new till this past June.

For reasons I don't understand yet, I have read that going to synth oil on higher mileage cars can possibly cause oil seepage. Now one reason is that because it's so much better at lubing stuff, it gets into everything better, including slightly worse seals that regular oil plugs up instead. Since synth oil *can* have stronger detergent agents, it is said that it *can* clean up those 'gunk plugs' and over time make it look like you've got a bad leak.

In any case, some say it's making their car run better with zero problems, others say that modern oil is 10x better than it was before and that it doesn't matter at all and not worth the extra expense.

For what it's worth, my '06 Sentra ran dino oil for 56k miles, changing at every 3,000 miles, then the dealer recommended I switch to synth since it was getting up in miles. They said to get it changed every 5,000 miles. My personal opinion is: Do what your wallet allows. :)

I did my first oil change at 3k if my memory serves. I change about every 6k using mobil 1 synthetic.

Seems like you understand it quite well, to be honest. Conventional oil will leave some sludge that fills the gaps as seals shrink and deteriorate over time. If you were to switch to synthetic, the better detergents would clear that sludge, thus allowing for oil seepage.

I change my oil every 3,500 miles or so and run conventional 10w-30.

Modern cars made these days will be able to handle a 5k interval on conventional oil with ease. Just check your oil level at 3k miles to see if your engine burns any oil.

THIS.

the 92 miata gets oil changes every 3.5k or when my lifter tick gets a bit louder than normal.Conventional.

the 99 eclipse gets oil changes every 5-6k on synthetic, depending on condition of oil, driving etc.

the 11 genesis coupe got changed every 5k on synthetic, 2k on synthetic during rally season.

Edit: I change my oil more often than i probably should, but that's just how I am.
