You mentioned that the cam sprocket snapped off and broke the cam. However, judging by the pics, it appears the cam sprocket is still fully attached to the cam. Did the cam just simply split itself?

And, if you can tell, is the tensioner still in tact? Unless it was an imperfection in the cam metal, something had to have happened for the chain to have too much tension to snap that cam like that. Hmmm.......
