Looking at buying this 240 tonight and wanted to run it by you all and see what you think. The seller has been very responsive in answering my questions, which makes me think there's not much to hide, plus the car looks pretty clean given the age. I'm looking to purchase it to turn into a semi-reliable daily driver. How much do you think the car is worth??

Here's the ad:

Hi, I have a clean title to a 1990 Nissan 240sx hatchback 2.4ltr 4cylinder ka24(e) motor five speed. The car is in decent shape, it needs some work.under the hood. I got the car not but a month or so ago and had a lot of plans to fix it and make it my daily driver until I found out I have a kid coming in December. The work.that needs to be done is the radiator popped on top and it does leak, I tried to seal it up and I got the leak to reside a little bit.. there's also a valve tapping it sounds like. So the car may have to be towed. Also there is no inspection sticker on the car Becauseeee someoneee stole it out of my vehicle. Everything else is pretty spot on. For a 22 year old car its in excellent condition. 140,000+ original miles, original paint, interior doesn't have many scuffs or marks, there is a tear in the driver seat and a very small.amount of cracks on some trim pieces. The exhaust has a leak in it around a gasket behind or in front of the cat. I was going to to put the money into the car myself, because it does need work, but I lost my job almost immediately after I got the car so my funds weren't sufficient enough to maintain and fix it.. there's a brand new starter on there and that was 150$. I'm only selling it to get a 4dr car for my baby that's arriving soon. Id rather invest money on something I know I will use.

First off start the thing and see how bad the tick is. From what im aware of there is a slight tick which is normal but anything above that is cause for concern when trying to turn this into a DD. Check the frame rails with a pick or screw driver to check for rust, dont be lazy here last thing you want is to repair rust. I'm willing to bet theres some ammount of rust under that foam wing, which is to be expected and not too hard to repair.

$150 for a KA starter...really?

IF the motor is fine and runs strong i could see going as high as 2k if you REALLY want it but realistically I wouldnt go higher than 1800. Checking CL here in NO thers a few S13s in better condtion for $1500

If it needs ANY kind of engine work, and it sounds like its been overheated so that would be a yes, I wouldn't give more than a grand for it, and that's being generous.

And yeah, $100-$150 is about what the average Joe is going to pay for a new starter with a lifetime warranty if you just walk into Oreilly's or wherever, sure its a little on the high side, but why is that a point of concern?

Not a huge worry but just strange. I just rebuilt mine and dont remember spending near that much, maybe 65-75 but not 150. Just seems like he's trying to talk it up well i spent a lot of money on XX parts.

I would be very suspicious of the 'radiator leak'. Could be a blown head gasket. I would need to see good compression numbers and clean oil and coolant to go over $1000.
