Hi all,

my brother's camry blew an engine last week and my dad is going to try to sell it but wants know what a fair price would be. Here are the stats:

1988 Toyota Camry LE 125,000 milesWithin the last 2,500 miles the following have been replaced:Brakes and brake padsTiresBatteryMuffler

The front-end suspension was replaced 5,000 miles ago, this included: shocks, tension rods, all rubber, etc etc.

Because it's an LE it has power everything and includes a sunroof. It does need a new engine.

Thanks for your help guys,

Nick

It's pretty tough to sell a car that has a blown motor and get any real money out of it, especially an older one. If it were a car that is desirable for a motor swap, he would be in a little better position. Given that the car doesn't run, I would say $500, tops.

IF that repo, not to be mean or anything, but getting even 500 would be hard. I would suggest trying to part it out, you can get a lot more that way.

Like I said guys, "tops". That would be with the right buyer. A bone yard would probably go $200.

I also agree with the parting out theory.

Thanks guys. That's about what I was expecting. Just wanted to make sure. I'll also pass along the parting-out idea. Thanks again.

Nick :)

if you can get a cheap engine, and swap it in yourself, you may be able to get more out of it.

If you have the time and patience, parting it out is a good idea. But if you just want to be rid of it without spending a dime. You might consider donating it charity. No haggling, you get a tax deduction, plus they remove the car. The charity benefits. Food for thought. Good luck

Another Toyota engine will take you another 150k-200k. Problem is, do you really wanna be seen driving an 88 Camry 10 years later?

Do what I did with my 84 cadillac when I blew the torgue converter:donate it to the kidney cars foundation.I got a $2000 tax refund for it. I'd never have gotten $2000 out of the car, even if it ran well (I paid--and this is not a joke--$2 for the car to start with.)

That's more than 4 times what you'd likely make selling it. And they'll take any car, working or not. Only problem is, you have to wait till next may or june to get the cash.
