So I noticed

Every shop charges differently. Take what you see here as kind of a baseline average and then call shops near your area how much they would charge. Typically expect the cost to equal motor + labor (usually around 1,000-1,500) + extras.

Depending on how many shops there are around your area and how knowledgeable they are in 240's. $5k to $6k for a complete S14 swap sounds about right. That includes motor, transmission and labor. I know around here shops charge about $4k for a complete S13 to S13 swap motor and transmission included.

If you're going to spend time to save up. You might as well research more and learn to do it yourself. You can send in the wiring to one of Nico's sponsors if you're not sure about the wiring. Pulling out the motor and putting one back in is pretty much straight forward. There are countless numbers of write ups online and dvd's. Doing it yourself will save you about $1500. Money that can go towards other goodies.

^completely agree. DIY ftw. I paid ~1500 for labor and motor markup to have my SR "professionally" installed and I'm still fixing their screw-ups, cut corners, and generally half-as*ed work. This was also a shop that was supposed to do good work!! ha! I think not. Like I said, DIY ftw, or look around at local shop's work and go with the best one, go there often and ensure they are doing things properly. My .02
