5sp swaps are always a good idea. Best bet is to call around to the shops in your area ask them the labor cost and if they'll let you supply your own parts (some do, most dont). If you want more detailed info, run a search on the forums and check the writups, a lot of people have done it and talked about it.

i got mine done at kermit racing in belton,mo it was about 1100....i got transmission and driveshaft with 60,000 miles...a stage 1 centerforce clutch...had to resurface the stock flywheel...clutch lines and cylinder...the labor was only like 200...the clutch was 250...transmission/driveshaft 500...resurface was around 65...ohh also fixed my rear mail seal leak....changed oil and filter and all fluids..all in all i think it is worth it...my car is totally different me like and to answer your question...hell yeah it is a good idea!

thing is, is it worth it...i say work with what you got and swappin transmission can be done downt he raod when you are done with everything else, like maybe if your transmission blows or you swap the engine or something. if i were you i would take that 500-1000 bucks you'll pay for the transmission swap and put it into some mods that will give you more hp or better handling, cause really you can rebuild your entire engine for that.

probably be cheaper to buy a manual 240 and sell yours...but i would never sell mine no matter how much it digs into my bank account...lots of people have hardcore sentimental issues with their 240 and wont sell them

It is a proven fact that the more you mod an automatic it will get slower becauce the powerband shifts above the auto's shifting points....so yes you will get more ponies but you will be making your car slower..trust me i did this first...now that i have a 5 speed the car is different for the better!

depends on what you mod, if you dont mod anything internally then you shouldnt have a problem. If we're talking about valvetrain components like cams where you raise your rpm range then all you need to do is get rid of htat pesky rev limiter. many people with autos just start in 1 and bump it up tot he next gear right at redline. also if you're doing major mods to your car, your probably gonna want ecu tuning anyways or a jwt tuned ecu, which will allow you to adjust your shift points, hence no need to swap if you can tune your shift points higher.
