How much unsprung weight is added with G37 BBK?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

The 2011 non sport EX35 really needs better brakes. Anybody know how much unsrpung weight the G37 BBK adds?

I really dont honestly remember the wt differences btw both braking systems.
We weighed them but its nothing to ring a church bell about.
Its going on a year now since I installed my upgrade with my boyfriend.

The materials are different and lighter anyways and not noticeable in everyday driving.

I would more worried about the weight being lifted off the wallet... :dblthumb:
They are not cheap to get done and it seemed so wrong taking off new 500mile brake pads that the dealer had just replaced from having the shimmies in the front and tossing them into a box.

Are u planning on racing your EX???? Then the weight differences might mean something. Then u could always go with the Stoptech lightweight braking system for the 370Z that my boyfriend pointed out for twice the cost again and not much difference on the street. :gotme

Man, that setup looks good. I want it soooo bad, but it's a lot of money for brakes on a daily driver.

I just bought my set from Z1Motorsports. They are being shipped Monday. Then i'm having them installed along with a different set of 20's. Nice to see there is not much weight difference.

Would you happen to know the increase in distance between the stock and the new sports? i'm trying to determine offset of the new wheels prior to the brakes arriving.

thx

Not so sure about the measurements parkstr8r but u can see from my pics that the change in size is significant.
The rotors are 14inch monsters 355mm.
The stock 17inch wheels will NOT fit - hence I'm trying to sell mine.
Not sure if this will help also but my wheel offsets are 19 x 9 47mm front 19 x 10 30mm rear.
U can see the spacing on my front brakes is tight from wheel-to-caliper in the pic also.
From my personal experience U will love the brakes... are u going with Hawk HPS pads? The stock ones suck in comparison just a heads up... :woot:

To do the install, did you need any special parts, or was it just calipers/rotors/pads, and bolt it on? Wasn't sure about brackets/lines/etc.

Thanks,

Jason

Kat - i have 15mm spacers on my FX20's which were an original offset of 50, and my EX had the 19's - so it had an offset of 47. 3mm difference, plus the 15 of the spacers i should be ok.

Trying to find a day when i can get them put on. Takes about 4 hours...and I would have to wait or take a cab home.

What tires are those? Parada Spec-x?

No special parts needed. The calipers swap over with no brackets or extra parts needed.
We reused bolts and bled each brake line as we went round.
We did put in stainless steel brake lines (Brembo I think?) that u can see in my install pic... not needed but a BIG plus for a firm pedal feel.

I really need to get it over with and put my write-up together. I have plenty of pics to go with the description.

The TOUGHEST part was cutting the brake dust shield with metal shears to allow the larger rotors to fit (boyfriend's palms were sore for days after that). They can be removed with much greater effort undoing the axle bearing bolts I'm told. Some people just bend to shield back out of the way - not my style I didn't feel safe doing that.
The Jap cars tend to bolt the brake-shields to the hub with the axle bolt mechanism somehow. Many Euro cars tend to use separate bolts to secure it.

A perfect swap experience.

Never had a problem since.

The (50-15)mm will give u an effective 35mm offset according to my personal handy man wrencher. Looking at my front wheel with the 47mm wheel there is more than enough space for a 35mm offset front wheel setup.... ENJOY. There is plenty of lip under the fender to roll if u run it too close.

It will be more than 4 hours with the brake dust-shield removal (see above) I would add an extra 30 -45 min per corner - FYI

Tires are Yokohama All Seasons - Advan S4.

Cool, thanks. I'll take a cut off wheel to the backing plates, much easier.

Good hope that works for u unfortunately we didn't have the time, or forewarning to locate a cut off wheel.
No idea why the gauge of steel used is so thick compared to the ones my boyfriend simply unbolted from Euro cars in the past.

Here is a pic of the waste:

And the trimmed brake dust shield:

Fun. I just did big brakes on my Miata, and the cut off was a 20 second fix. I'd hate to have had to do that by hand.

Thanks for all of the info, I can't wait to put these on my EX.

Hahaha a cut off wheel will be quick BUT 20 second quick per corner? - Lets get real.
Lets be nice to provide accurate times for people coming behind us wanting to perform this upgrade.

You tube that or it didn't happen...

PS: Would be nice to see the sparks flying... :dblthumb:

Sure does OTG can we call u that instead of spelling out ur screen name?

If u take off ur wheels and look back there OR peek in there with a flashlight u will see that the brake dust shield "hugs" the smaller rotor.

What the heck I might as well post up my write-up pic...

Misunderstood  thought u meant u would blast off the EX brake shields in 20sec... either way its a major pain and something any future upgrade enthusiast should prepare for :badger
