how much shifter play do you have?

...and how do I get less? The shifter on my s13 is pretty sloppy, in gear it can move in a small circle and still be in gear, Im not used to this and dont like it much, so I opened up the shift boot and there is only rubber grommets that I dont wanna take off without knowing what Im doing. Anyone successfully make this go away? Will an aftermarket short shifter make it play less? Thanks.

Sounds like you need to replace the shifter bushings.
