im thinking about getting a turbo kit for my 96 ka but my friend said i could only run 2-3 psi with a stock engine. just wondering if this is true and if it is would it be worth spending all that money on a turbo kit if it will only run 2-3 psi. or should i spend that money elsewhere.

You wont run much. If its a good condition KA I've heard you can go up to maybe 6 or 7. I would confirm that though, a quick search on the forum will do that for you. (cant miss it, red button, upper right of page, flashes. Also in my sig, but bigger).

However, even if it is only 2 or 3, it will still be worth it, because compared to putting the turbo in, its not going to cost you that much to get the right stuff and build the engine up. Just make sure you do as much at once as possible, because whenever you take an engine apart there are certain gaskets and such that really need to be replaced with new ones.

Go over and punch your friend in the guts. There is many ka's running up to 12psi without any problems. After that then it depends on your engine life. There is some runnign 15-22psi on stock ka's without a problem. Stock internals are good to about the 350rwhp range. You can buy the IAP kit from our sponsor. I have it and love it. Or you can piece one together. You can run 8-10 psi and be a very happy person. Put you around 250rwhp++ depending on your turbo.

that high? I mean, **** it, It wont matter for me because my stock internals aren't in that great of shape. A little uneven compression here... oil leak there...I'm waiting to get a rebuilt DE to swap in, or at least rebuild my E, depending on what works out.

If we're talking about internals, then **** yeah that high.

This friend may have been thinking literally all stock - not just internals, but fuel, ecu, etc. That's more what 2-3 psi sounds like.

pretty much any stock NA engine in decent shape can do 6-7 PSI. that being said, any forced induction doesnt 'make' power persey, it 'multiplies' whatevers going on in your engine.so you whatever power you start with will greatly affect what your forced induction power will be, but to go along with that, any problems you have will be multiplied as well

ex"oh its just a small oil leak, ill use dino oil and keep putting a quart in every week" with turbo == damn.. that rod just tried to escape thru the side of teh block

make sure your **** runs correctly then you should have no problems adding a turbo and boosting 6-7, if you do a full rebuild with forgies all around, you can start going higher, go to the KAT forum and KAT.org (KA-T.org?) for more info

it's all in the tuning, and a well put together set-up...BTW psi does not matter, you could have 5,000 psi and 2.7 CFM and it might work.
