I just replaced KYB SR and Tien S tech on 97Q. Now it looks lowered. After the installation on a test drive the car feels stiff and bouncy. I can also hear rubber like crack/thump noise from the front when turning into the driveway or backing out. I have already cut the new bumpstop in half allowing struts to travel more without limited by the full bumpstop. Do I need to cut the bumpstop and dustcover more? My previous set up was Eibach pro kit with stock struts and I had no issues. Any advise ?

Go back to the Eibachs? Works very well for me.

Cutting bump stops is probably not such a good idea as they are specified to resist wieght of car at exteremes of suspension travel. Less rubber = more shock and load on the metal mounts.

I think your car is telling you the spring rate is too low for the limited amount of travel you have.

You may be right may be I should. I have my bump stop cut in half and I still can't push the car up and down which means it's still sitting on the bump stop not on the spring. My Eibach looked good in the front with one finger gap but rear was sitting high with 2.5 finger gap. I like the way the Tien sits but I might have to put the Eibachs back on just the front. Eibach spring were thicker than Tiens. Then I'll have one finger gap in the front and rear. Does it mean people with Tien S type and KYB SR are riding on their bumpstop not on the springs? Do you have Eibach springs too?

You were right. Tien S Tech P/N SKN76-M1B00 that I got with 2" drop were very low rated for the car. I have a feeling it's for 6 cyl. cima.I found out where the noise were comming from. It's the top three coils rubbing each other when the springs get compressed drving on to the angle of the driveway. After I re-installed the Eibach Springs, all the problems were eliminated. Except they look almost stock, but it rides like stock .Falk who sold me the spring told me he has no problem with his car with full bumpstop, But how can he have a good ride if his car is sitting on the bumpstop not the spring. After I cut my new bumpstop in half (approx.1 1/2") I only had approx. 1" clearance between bumpstop and the strut cap sitting on the ground.I had full bumpstop with Eibach 1" drop and when I pulled them out they were beat up/ twisted from lack of traveling gap. If I knew this was the case, I should have bought the insurance coilover for $600.00 more. Thanks for your advise.
