Ah, but when I graduated from college, I had less than $50 in the bank and had to survive till my first paycheck. Also had lots of student loans and owed my roommate four months rent.
So, I took a deep breath, got a $1k personal loan from a bank - the collateral was the job offer letter, since I did not have any credit cards or parents to help out - put a $95 down-payment on a 1978 Ford Fiesta (price new was about $5000), paid the $400 insurance and plates and went for it! Rest is history.
It all takes time! You gotta have patience!
