How much mileage did you get on stock tires?

First off I guess I should ask what your Versa came stock with... since I've seen some others on them. but my 08 came with continental conti-contact's.

I just wanna say. These things SUCK. I've worked at tire shops in the past, so I've driven on quite a few different kinds of tires, in different cars. And these are pretty much the worst.

Wet traction = what wet traction? Car will randomly jump and rev in the rain. Dry traction? Meh, at best... though they do give good warning by howling bloody murder at you, if you get close to the limits.

I just passed 35,000 miles on my car (freeway, little to no traffic, driving)... and it's almost time for new ones? What!? I drove an s13 with crappy alignment, and cheap no-name tires for about 60k. I beat the heck out of that car! ... and they still had tread when i pulled them off!

What did you guys get out of your OE tires?

I got 30,000 on the stock Continentals then one of them picked up a nail. The bands split with the plug and the tire got way out of round and started to balloon and self destruct.

Kind of silly to replace one tire and three have 30K on them so I just bought four new ones.

As far as the tires themselves in the past 30,000 miles...Great. Handled well in wet or dry. Smooth, quiet. I thought they were great tires for OEM's.

Got a super deal on some Kumho SR21's and put four of those on after the nail mishap. These are great as well. They're rated for over 60,000 miles and a free two year road hazard warranty included. Quiet, smooth...no complaints.

I swapped mine out at 20,000, not because I needed to but because I didn't care for the Continental tires and I wanted to get Michelins on the car.

I think the originals would have gone another 8-10,000 miles.

Swapped my Conti's after 1850 miles, and yes they suck.

Am I the only one who doesn't push their Versa to making the tires squeal (unless you do track or something)? I took the Contis off at 35k and only because I wanted to try some new tires that might be smoother with a little more wet traction. They still were not down to the wear bars and I only rotated them once at 20k. My co-workers Ion is still riding on the same Contis. I handed them off to him for $20. I probably could have pushed those Contis to 50k even if I would have been a little below the wear bars by that point. I honestly felt that the wear I was getting out of them was acceptable. Besides, if you want a tire that lasts forever, it usually comes at a harder tread compound which usually has not so great traction. If you want a performance tire that has great wet and dry traction, don't expect the tire to last 80k or even 60k. There are a few tires that seem to be exceptions like the Hyrdoedge from Michellin but their tires are bit overpriced IMO.

I guess I'm easy on mine, too, plus most of my driving is highway without starts, stops, turns or sharp curves. I got 63k on the Contis on my first Versa, and just figured it was time as they still hadn't gotten to the wear bars.

The hydroedge is what I put on my Versa.

I'm no tire expert, but how high does the tire temperature need to get to wear just a hair faster at high speeds? I spent a lot of time early on with the car running 70-73 mph in 100+ degree heat? The pavement and tires had to be scorching.

Otherwise, I've always been easy on tires, too. Maybe I would have gotten more than the 8-10,000 miles out of the originals than I guessed at.

Shadow,

I'm the same way. I don't push the car's envelope, just drive it like the econobox car its intended to be. My Continentals were just fine. A nice blend of low noise, grip and mileage.

The Kumho's I have now are really nice, too. I think they're going to wear well.

Out here in the summer, the pavement will get to 150 degrees or more. Going 75 mph (the freeway speed limit) with those road temps will require tires to be in good shape or else. You'll see a lot of people on the side of the road here in the summer as their tires are in pieces.

Well worn tires or tires with little tread left have no chance of surviving the brutal summer and they will blow out from the heat.

The first pair I replaced went out at about 12k miles. That would be due to being a brand new driver, just learning to drive a stick. haha. I just replaced the other pair at about 30k. These tires are garbage anyway. No traction at all.

My car is at 26000km and it's still on the oem tire. It seems to be far from dying! Can't wait to change for better one, I really misses my Rt615

Got 43,000 on mine right now and still got more life. They perform fine for me in the wet or dry, but never tried them in the snow.

43,000 would probably be OK to drive on dry road. Definitely a no-no once snow is on the ground. Those stock tires are only good when they were new and winter #2 was OK as well. After they were crap.

I get about 15k out of my tires

I turn corners pretty fast, I'm on my 3rd set (originals, replaced with exacts from nissan, then got yokohoma somethings that were rated higher speed, softer compound)... I'm not happy with how short lifespan is. 3rd set and car is at 35k miles.

3rd set at 35k? Alignment is either severely off or you're abusing that car to the point that all the suspension bushings will already need to be replaced also

I ran on mine up to 52,000. They still had tread but not enough to enjoy driving in the winter or in the rain. My alignment was pretty bad and I started getting a vibration so I bought 4 new tires.

I have 34000 kms on my car. We'll say at least 20 of that was on the stock 'conti's' and the rest I'll say was done on my Hankook winter tires.

I must agree with the original poster. The continentals SUCK in any type of wet weather. I don't know how people can possibly use them in the snow. They are useless. I hate using them. My snow tires are incredible and I love using those, but I don't in the summer.

My stock tires though are fine in regards to tread. They have tons left and I hope they last a few more summers.

I think it's your driving that is affecting your tire usage. You just said how you turn corners pretty fast. Maybe you should think about adjusting or altering your driving skills. Unless of course, you like dishing out that kind of money all the time for new tires.

I ran mine to 53,000 miles and just replaced them last month. I had no complaints with the contis other than how narrow they were. I got 195 Eagle GTs that I really like. I had Eagle GTs put on my wife's Mazda 3 and I really like them. Decently cheap in price too but good quality.

@5400 miles and almost a year old. Be nice if i can get 30k more miles out of them. They did pretty good in the bad winter weather.

Do you have snow tires all around or just the front?

Hopefully all four!
I had snows on just the front on my first Tempo. All-seasons on the rear.
I got into some slush, corrected to the left, but back end kept sliding to the right!
Then back end must have caught some shoulder, or I over-corrected, and swung back around 270 degrees into oncoming traffic! We ended up on wide snow covered shoulder, half in the ditch, perpendicular to the road,
Thankfully, NOT A SCRATCH ON CAR OR US!
I'll never forget looking out driver's window sliding at an oncoming F150 [the ugly ones: 87 and up!]
Whew :ohno: Always go with tires with equal grip on all four corners, snows or otherwise! Esp fwd!

I have 31,500 miles on mine and am switching them next week to Continental ExtremeContact DSWs. I could probably hit 40,000 miles with the tread left though.
