I got a few bites on my Q around $2700-$3200, which is more than its worth at this mileage (186k) and that was before upgrading chain guides. Private party book was/is $2300. Fortunately I didnt have my new title at that point so I didnt sell it.

My asking price was $3300. What seemed to help was my hideously thick stack of records, dealer maintenance info, good visual upkeep, and being eager to let the potential buyer take it for a spin. I also went on and on about using Mobil 1, my frequent oil changes and transmission flushes, and mentioned sources for cheap parts (Joe @ Scottsdale) and good places to go in town for service.

I cared about my car, and it showed. People do notice that.

I agree with Jesda. Again, with a car like this with such a different market value, its really hard to say what you will actually get from it. If it was a BMW, it would have a more steadfast value..... But since this is an infiniti, the depreciation is more and definitely more finnicky.....

What do you think the car should be worth, Truest...??? Considering what youve done...

at least, between $7000 to $8000

keep in mind, i bought the car for $10, 000. spent close to 5 Gs replacing parts in it. i did not take it to uncle joes. all repairs were done at infiniti dealership.

$7 to 8 grand aint bad. and i've put into consideration that the AC is the only thing that isn't working right. maybe i'm not setting it right but during the winter time, it works pretty well. its blows heat. but during this heat season, i'm not getting any cold air

the air conditioning worked well during the winter? you mean heater, the cooling unit,if not cooling could cost upwards of another 1000-1500 to repair- you are,as they say"upside down" in this vehicle-you have way more money into it then you will get out of it.why are you interested in dumping it after such a short ownership and large investment?

Don't understand? You brought a 97Q for $8600 4 MONTHS AGO put $5,000 into it and it still has defects [AC] and you drove it 6,000 miles and now you want to sell it.

From 1/25/04: "although i love this car enough to know I'm not selling it in the near future".

i get the impression u think theres other things wrong with this car that i'm not telling. well, i can take it to the infiniti dude keith in jersey u guys keep talking about and he'll give u a feed back

now, as for elwesso. yes, i paid 8 thousand dollars in cash for the car.. $500+ for the bs taxes +shipping) that dealers charge.

keep in mind, i also traded in my 2000 Daewoo which along with the $8600 totals a over $10,000 and below $11,000

also, q45tech, its not a 97q. its a 99q45t

ARGH! UGH! ACK! OY MY HEAD IS HURTING FROM THIS THREAD!Sorry. Back to the issue at hand.. :)

After your expenditures, I suggest keeping the car -- its impractical to do so but if you love the car enough, then the ownership and driving experience will be worth it. You should be able to get 270-300k out of it with PROPER care and staying on top of things that will (not might, I said will) go wrong.

The 99 Q is a nice, sharp car, but I spent $8k -total- on my 92 ($4k purchase and $4k fixing). If you dump the Q now, youve lost 5 grand. If you keep it, youll lose more.

This is the question that you must sit and contemplate:"Do I like this car enough to spend more, or should I suck it up and let it go?"

I kept mine, not because it was the sensible thing to do, but because I love every god damn thing about my Q45.

Have you considered an Infiniti I30 or Acura RL?

cant resist"you should be able to get 270-300 thousand miles out of it"SAYS WHO? you young ones seem to forget,in order to get this long service life out of the drivetrain,THE CAR NEEDS TO BE OVERSERVICED from day one! who knows the frequency of fluid changes when you purchase a used car with 170,000 plus miles on it? triage at this late stage in life does not erase minimum fluid services up to this age,or the effects thereof.poor advice,in my opinion

At the worst [if it was as bad as a 90 Q and we know they are not] the next 70,000 miles would cost $10,500-$14,000 and at the least if it was a Honda Civic it would cost $5600. Let's quess and say $7,000.

You gotta get away from the dealer and use a trusted independent who will let you supply any needed major parts. This way other than the engine/transmission you can cut your financial risk down [by 30-35%].

Compression/leakdown and hot oil pressure should give you an idea of how many miles are left...........if it doesn't blue smoke any now on start up after sitting overnight........it will probably stay that way with 90 day oil changes into the high 200k range.

THEN, You must check transmission and ac and diff, everything else is cheap after those are given a clean bill of health.

AS to spending the initial $5k that's only $2k plus what ever the AC cost to repair...........higher than normal but we have seen people purchase cars that need $8,000 [and more] and they waited to come to us or anybody till the 30-90 days was up or longer. No recourse even in court.

I remember my Dad's first lux car he went up from a 1951 Olds 88 V8 to a 1955 Coupe de Ville .......the engine needed a rebuild at 36,000 miles and the transmission failed at 42,000 miles and the AC* at 50,000 miles and the engine got rebuilt again at 65,000 miles......his business had a down turn and he kept the car to 100,000 miles till 1965.

* Actually it leaked so bad that it had to be rebuilt and recharged every May.

After that he personally drove a series of GMC pickups to exhaustion.....40 years later [at 78 on his 6th] he still drives a pickup.

He laughs at my trials with my 14 year old 264,000 mile Q.

There is probably a moral here somewhere.Look at what vehicles mechanic/techs drive.

My favorite tech? My most trusted and reliable one? An 800hp Dodge Viper with nitrous. :D

But that was back in Spokane. Here in St Louis, my favorite tech at my nearest Firestone shop has two Chryslers: a Dodge Intrepid and Chrysler Town and Country minivan, both 1993 models, with 300k each.
