How much would my rebuilt SOHC be worth? Has 700 miles since rebuild. Here is what I did:

-Polished crank-new bearings-new pistons-new rings-valve job-reworked head-bored 50 over-boiled block-boiled head-custom painted VC-high temp painted block-new water pump-new oil pump-new plugs-new wires-new distributor/rotor cap-new belts-new vacuum hoses-new clutch-new to bearing-new clutch slave-new head gasket-all new gaskets-new cam sprocket/timing chain/tensioners-new fuel filter-new injector o-rings

pretty much everything is new, just broken in with synthetic oil and premium fuel. This thing is perfect and extremely clean.

How much do you think I could get for engine and transmission together?

It all depends...

If you have all the receipts for parts & labor and the place that did the rebuild is reputable, then you can probably get like 300-400 for it...

The problem is that a lot of these things cannot be verified w/o taking the engine apart. Also, most ppl just pick up free sohc blocks and build them up to their exact specs and know exactly what goes in them for a few hundred.

well i personally did everything but the machine work myself so i know everything was done perfectly. i have all receipts. Wow not as much as I had hoped.

I just came into some money and was going to see how much I could get for this engine/transmission and buy a blacktop clip. I guess I could sell the car with the motor and get a lot more out of it rather than pulling the motor.

Well, that's where the problem is. It all depends on who you sell it to. Most of the ppl on this board don't know you. I'm sure you did it perfectly and I'll give you the benefit of the doubt... but that's because I'm not the one interested in actually buying it, haha.

It's just w/ like any shop - unless the customer knows you do good work, lots of other ppl vouching for you, etc - there's really no telling what was really done on the engine... even w/ receipts.

You can get more... u just gotta be able to back up the cost w/ something more than "because I did it". How much you will get for it in the end, whether 300-400 or 800-1000, depends on how good of a sales person you are.

i paid 200 flat for my KAE. Supposedly it was rebuilt and only less than 10k mi (rebuilt early 05) but the guy had no proof because he bought the car off his friend. He had no use for the enigne since he was doing a swap. I took his word for it. No leaks, great compression, very clean, spark plugs were tan (not black), no smell from exhaust, I took off the valve cover and it was very clean inside, as opposed to my previous kae which still ran pretty good. At first i felt kinda like a low baller when i made the offer, but since there was no receipt for the rebuilt work then thats the best i could offer. The guy was really cool and gave me tons of spare parts. So far i've put ~2.5k mi on it and it runs very strong.

So the moral of the story is don't expect too much if there is no proof. Maybe my engine is rebuilt or it was simply well taken care of. Post it up for sale and be very detailed about what you did and what the shop did. See what kind of offers you get i guess.
