A proper port & polish, valve job, and cam would probly get you around 10 to maybe 20 depending on where you are starting from. If you are starting with a stock everything else: intake, exhaust manifold, exhaust, ect. then you would see less of a gain, maybe even less than 10 hp. With more mods that are capable of flowing more air than stock (intake/exhaust), the more of an effect the port/polish, valve job, and cam would have with maybe gains of even more than 20 depending on how your porting job is. You say you have $600 so I'm guessing you aren't getting somebody else to port. In case you didn't know, getting your head ported can be expensive, like more than $600. But, before you throw this stuff out, there are a couple of things to think about. First, although this mod seems relatively expensive, the dollars per hp figure is actually better than some other mods. Say like a hotshot header that adds 5 hp for $300 (compared to 15 hp for $600). See what I mean. Although it is more money upfront it is actually a better deal. It's like when your parents buy toilet paper in the "double roll" size by the bulk to save a few bucks. Second, this mod will have a positive effect on any other mod you do to your engine. When you do add the turbo to your car you will have a more efficient engine. The added breathing capability will allow more air into the engine with less boost. This is also safer for your otherwise stock engine. Speaking of stock, that stock setup (cam, valve job, restrictive ports) wasn't exactly designed for the added air a turbo can supply. Why try to make it work anyway? And last, if you can do the port/polish yourself and have some of the tools or know someone you can borrow them from, it is basically a free mod. The only factor is time, and if you do decide to do it, please take your time. It is not a job for everyone. A great place to look is the Standard Abrasives website
