I would think on a stock fuel tank on most cars 1/2 to 3/4 would be a good range, on a sumped tank you can get away with less but not many people sump their stock tanks, if they are that serious about drag the just get a small fuel cell, for me I didn't want to whole out my body to install the fuel cell and had a serious fuel delivery problem so I sumped my stocker

I run with a full tank for weight transfer reasons.the fact that the weight is in front of and not quite centered over the rear wheels makes it interresting to get the perfect answer to this question as it has much to do with how stiff your suspension is.

I've compared full - 3/4 - 1/2 - 1/4 and almost empty. The answer is almost empty. If you can keep fuel in the lines for the whole 1/4 mile, then thats the answer. Need traction, run slicks at 8 psi. Want more wt, put the battery and ice chest in the back.

For a drag race, you want as little fuel in the car as you can get away with. Fuel is heavy. Heavy makes you slower.

Look at a pro drag car, their fuel tanks are designed to hold exactly enough fuel to get to the end of the strip. No reason to carry extra weight around when you aren't going to use it.
