well a few days ago i was driving, minding my own business when my engine started to knock. At first i immediately pulled over to inspect, and since i was about half a mile from work i drove back to work basically on 1st gear idle. It's been parked there since, as im looking for a place to tow it to (i live in an apartment complex, so i can't park it there). I'm pretty sure it's the bearing that gave up, but i didnt open it up or anything yet. Im trying to figure out whether to go through with a rebuild or just buy a new engine. I looked at a few threads over here and some vids on engine rebuild, doesnt look too complicated, although i am a noob when it comes to engine internals. I was trying to get a feel of how much can i sell the engine for and see what's more cost effective. Basically what should be my asking price for my motorset with s15 turbo, z32 maf, greddy front mount, chipped ecu, stock intake/exhaust manis. thanks

Is this your daily driver?

Are you in a financial situation where you could rebuild the motor?

If you sell the motor then what? Swap back the KA?

If you can drive something else for the time being I'd probably go with rebuilding the motor. Follow the FSM and you'd be fine.

You're knocking S14 SR would probably bring about $1000 give or take. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Highly doubt a knocking motor, s14 or not, would bring in $1000. You would probably be better off parting it out.

The s15 turbo bumps up the value a little, but I still wouldn't pay much more 800 for it, knowing it needs a rebuild, plus other possible damage.

If you have the time, and knowledge, and tools I would just tear apart the bottom end, repolish the crank (grind if neccessary), new rod and main bearings, pistons rings, hone cylinders, and it put it back together.

And just throw some new gaskets on

i have another 240 i was trying to sell so i have another daily. I want to rebuild it, my only concern is the space and time. I work 40 hours a week and go to school full time, so it's a bit of a tight schedule. Then working in a garage with no heat in the winter is gonna suck donkey balls. But im gonna do it I will report back soon, be prepared for a lot of noob questions, thanks
