Looking to get a idea of what to pay for a hardbody I am bidding on. The bid is a sealed bid.

-The truck is a 1990 Nissan D21 2wd hardbody 2.4l automatic, all stock.
-It has underside surface rust and the start of rust rot on the front passenger fender, and above the passenger rear tire.
-The battery is dead, will start with a jump start.
-The engine sounds good but has a metallic heat shield clacking sound which I have narrowed down to the alternator or idler pulley.
-The Mileage is 198,000 Miles
-Tires are in O.K condition
-Passed inspection 12/2013
-Clear-coat is gone base-coat is brittle
-All in all the body is still solid, everything is there, it runs, and might need a tune up.

Looking for any ideas for what I should set the bid amount for

It will probably depend on where you're located, but around here, you don't see many that aren't rusty. Also, I'm not sure if there is a forum rule or just that forum members don't like to discuss value. I'm new here, but haven't gotten any response when asking about what they're worth either. I'm more into the 4x4s, so not sure what a 2wd would value. Try comparing to prices of other trucks that are a similar year, class (Toyotas, Mitzus, etc) and condition. Good luck- they're certainly becoming more and more rare.

I am in NC, Could not find the forum rules. I figured I would ask, as some have posted that they found a truck for cheap and posted what they paid for it, mostly 4x4's. I find the 4x4 hardbodys for 2,500 around here all day long, but no 2wd models. the s10's,toyotas, etc.. are going for about 600-1200. They are rare around here but the engines are tanks if taken care of, so the bid can go either way.

Its difficult to sit in the arm chair and appraise a vehicle with the information given. Need to know - standard or extended cab. History of vehicle Etc. Given the information, I would bid between - Three & Four hundred dollars. Make sure you check the frame, and the radiator support, also figure sales tax, seller commission, transfer fee, license plate, and insurance. If forever or whatever reason you are not able to test drive the truck, DO NOT get to carried away. Check around your area ( the price of scrap vehicles) and base your bid on that. If the truck does not pan out at least you can recover some money.

If you have pics we can give you a really rough idea. I own a 1991, used to be auto, and I paid next to nothing for it. The one item I would be most suspect of would be the transmission. If it has never been serviced that could be a problem. Mine stopped working at 177,000 miles with no work done to it. I ditched it for a 5 speed but it's a lot of work that might not appeal to everyone. I did it because the rest of the truck was in good shape.

Depends on what you think it's worth. If it were a 4x4, I'd be all over that! If you feel the same way about 2WDs, looks like you have a nice start. Not sure of the auction format, but wouldn't be surprised if you could get it for under $1,000. Although these have a rabid following, there's not much demand or knowledge of them in the general marketplace. That may work to your advantage when bidding. If you get it and don't want the cap, message me and I'll make you a reasonable offer! Good luck!

Check the frame really well. Looks like there is some rust through on the rear bumper and fender well area. I don't believe the 2WDs have the fully boxed frame, so you'll want to be sure that's solid or you're really are only buying parts.

The underside has surface rust but its not pitted or rusted out. The rear bumper, fender, bolts, and wheel well are the bad areas. My guess is where salt collected and was never washed off properly and ate through over time.

BOUGHT IT ALMOST NEW,AND IF I GET IT RUNNING ,I WOULDN'T DREAM OF LESS THAN $1500.00 NOT RUNNING,MAYBE $200-$400.00 FOR AN AS - IS FIXER UPPER/PARTS TRUCK.... FRUSTRATED,THOUGH IT SERVED US WELL SINCE WE BOUGHT IT IN DEC.'97. I'D SAY FOR A 1990, NO MORE THAT $ 800.00 AS IS . LET US ALL KNOW ,AND GOOD LUCK WITH WHATEVER YOU BUY. :)

I'd be hard pressed to give much more than a grand for that truck. If it was rust free and had a 5spd I'd easily give twice that amount.

Along the same lines...what would a really, really clean '96 2wd base model with less than 80K miles be realistically worth?

I have a 97 hardbody 2wd with the 5 spd and the Kelly Blue book Value on it is at about 3K, note the truck is starting to rust on the box and it has 131K miles. Granted if i were buying the truck myself i wouldnt pay more than 2K.

It really comes down to what you are willing to invest into the vehicle.
