Hi, anyone have any idea what Nissan would charge for 16 factory shims? My valve lash is out of spec on almost every intake/exhaust port....and the cams are making some funky noises...so I just need thicker shims....Anyone who's purchased them/has any idea how much they are, it'd be appreciated.

The local nissan dealer here in Valdosta wanted $10 and some change per shim. The best advice I could give you is to calculate the thickness of the shims needed and contact Don at PDM. He may be able to get them made for about half the price. By the way I'm in a bind and need a 91 intake cam and shims( mine broke at the cam gear boss) so if anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

I might be able to hook you up with the stock intake shims that I have out of the motor....and maybe the PDM intake shims once I get them out....I know the exact thicknesses too, if you need them.

Yeah, that would be great. I still have to find a cam but the shims could really come in handy. But first make sure your not going to need them, in my experience it can be a real pain getting shims and cams for these things. By the way, what kind of turbo are you running? and how much of a power increase?

Well, I will still have one set of shims left over.... (either the ones I'm using or the OEM ones)...I need to get new ones anyway...I think I'll be all set....I have to check the sizes of the OEM ones I have right now, some of them may be better than the ones I'm using now. I'll let you know.

I'm running a T-3, .42 exhaust, .48 compressor--it's a small turbo, probably too small, it loses boost past 4500 RPM...I'm running with no intercooler at around 8 psi, but I have a pretty sweet alcohol injection system. It makes decent power....it chirps second at only 4500 in 1st when I shift to second. I did a 0-60 of 6.5 seconds at 7 psi...and this was the first time that I've EVER launched my car hard with the intent to measure a 0-60 time, which means a better driver probably could have gotten around 6.1 seconds. I wish I could hold 2nd out to 60 too, because you have to do a third gear shift at like 58 mph, which seriously hinders the ET.

I got a cam sitting at the shop... I was runing a stock s13 240-248 setup, but tossed the exhaust cam in the intake side and then ran the 232 s14 exhaust for the exhaust, giving me a 248-232... This leaves me with 2 intake cams (240 [91] and 232 [96])...

I was going to get another 248 exhaust cam and run a 248-248, and depending if I like it or not, keep it that way, or revert to the 248-232 and sell the 248 with the 240 I have as an s13 set...

Email me and mabey we can work something out....

MarkEmarksounds like it would be fun to drive. I have only had the pleasure of driving mine once since I built a new engine. The head cracked so its out of commission. It was bored 1mm and JE pistons in the bottom end. The top end got ported and polished. I removed the clutch fan, AIV, EGR and all emissions. I'm lucky, no smog tests here. I installed an electric fan and moved the stock electric fan to the front side of the condensor. That took a little persuasion with a grinder but turned out really good. OBX short shifter, ACT clutch, redline synthetics throughout. Accell thundersport wires and platinum +4 plugs. And last but not least a big polished intake. The guy that done the port work for me is ****ing me but I found a shop up in Carol Stream Ill. that says he can fix the cracked head for about 250 but I've got to send the complete head to him. Cams and all. Maybe I'll get it straghtened out before long.

I built it for NA. I thought it would be cheaper, though I'm kicking myself in the *** now. I spent just as much money as it would have cost me to get boost. The reason the head cracked is the machine shop who did the head work hogged out a little too much alluminum. It cracked on the initial test run. When I took the head back to him the S.O.B. told me to put some block seal in it. It will be a cold day in hell before I put block seal in a brand new engine. So I found a head shop up in Chicago that says he can fix it. But when I went to pull the head I accidentally sheared off the cam gear boss off the intake cam. I know, I'm a dumbass. So now as soon as I get the cams straightened out, I can send this thing to Shy town to be hooked up.

And deez1001, I havent installed nos just yet. I'm waiting to break the motor in first. But it is on the way.

MarkEmarkYeah, I can probally use them. 96_s14_se says I can use an exhaust 248 cam in the intake side if I retard the intake 1.7 degrees. I have a spare exhaust cam but no shims. So just let me know what I need to do to get them. Man, you dont know how much I appreciate this. I'm really glad I found this forum.

NO NO NO thats not right.... I sent you that link to FA.com where I pointed it out step by step in the thread...

You must put the cam into the intake cam gear (in its stock posistion on the chain) then rotate it (cam and gear assembly) 4 teeth CCW on the chain.. This puts the exhaust cam in the stock posistion (as if it where the stock intake cam, or had been repinned) but it is 1.7° retarded...

Like I said emil me before you attempt it, or if you attempt it, so I can give you the step by step...
