I'd like to get an idea of how the finished product in my head could look like on paper. Since I can't seem to build my truck as fast as I come up with ideas and with that I am curious about rendering services. I absolutely suck as PS. How much does a service like car rendering actually go for? Who does renderings? As one can see I'm at the infant stage of the mod scene.

How's that?

The speed of a rendering depends on the artist, how much detail you want.

Stabbing the tires is free, and it will render the vehicle useless.

You're welcome.

Found this with a quick google search:

http://www.yourautoart.com/cardrawingprices.html

Rough rendering is $35 + shipping from this guy. Seems like it'll be around that price.

Well, at least mine was free... :chuckle:

I periodically see a local rendering artist that attends some of the classic car shows I go to. Talented dude. Weather permitting I'll be at another show this weekend where hopefully he'll have a set up again. If he's there, I'll get his card for you. I don't know his prices, but I know he does work from both in person and pictures.

You did pretty good for free, I was feeling it. Looked just like I imagined, just without color. :D

I am a 3d artist and can do rendering but I do 3d work and not 2d. For what you want it ranges from who you ask to do it. Each artist charge differently, some professional who has been doing it for years will charge you quite a bit 200+ while some will charge you 50-100. It mostly depend on who you ask.

Then you have 3D model/rendering which allow for more. The price of getting the full 3d model and set up ranges from 100-200+ depending on the details put into it. I enjoy the 3D modeling side of things because it allow me to customize it in many ways without having to re-draw the entire car. I can swap wheels I have already model anytime or change the color of the car on a fly. Hope that helps. I would 3d model your car with no charge since it would allow me to put it on my site but I am currently working on a few projects already. Here is one that I am working on now a Datsun 510

what software do you use? ive always though it would be fun to do. im a pro/e user and while i could model up about anything under the hood, given time, body panels would be pretty tricky. not impossible, but pretty cumbersome. especially if you wanted to tweek stuff.

I can use both Autodesk 3D studio max and Autodesk Maya. Both can do what I do in 3d space. The Datsun is done in 3ds max but I have made a 350z and audi r8 in Maya also. Lately I been doing my stuff in 3ds Max but render them in Maya since I prefer Maya ligthing and render set-up much better using Mental Ray.

All I really need is the blueprint of the truck and then all kind of pictures you can provide. I don't mind doing it when I have some time but it shouldn't take me long at all. I guess to start off you can give me the Year/Model of the truck, so I can search for blueprints. If not then you will need a tripod and take a side/front/rear shot of the car at an even level so I can make a blueprint of it. Usually a top view is important but I can model off reference.

From there if I can get the basic shape I will then need hi res shot of: Headlights, Taillights, door handle and stuff just shots that will reveal the details that can't really be seen in a blueprint in different angles.

EDIT: I search for prints on the D21 and was only able to find prints of the D22 with a top view. If you can provide pictures of the side/front/rear I can easily 3d model this truck. If you are only asking for exterior shot I can get that done pretty quick. Not sure how much a difference the D21 and D22 is in length etc but the top view I found will help with proportions of the car. I enjoy doing a stock version first with whatever wheels you want, etc and can match how your truck look with lights etc and with a fresh looking paint job.

Is there a huge difference in the 1986 and 1995 D21 trucks (proportion wise)?

86 was a transition year. The first half was the 720 and D21 appeared mid model year. Everything remained unchanged until 1997 when the model was replaced with the d22, which only shares the cab floor and back wall with the D21(it shares other pieces but for the topic at hand I am only listing the body similarities).

Oh okay. I mainly just need to know mostly about the body similarities and proportion wise, but from the looks of the truck it does not look hard at all to 3d model. If you are able to get the requested pictures of your car (Side/Front/Rear) I can give it a shot and go from there. I will also PM my email, if you want to go the route of 3d.
