It costs 135.00 and about 10 hours labor. Have fun I did mine about a month ago........or you could pay a shop about 600-800 dollars.

Yup

The chain on my KA24DE is starting to make a little 'gur gur' noise at idle. Anything above 2000 rpm and the noise is "gone". Anyway I asked the shop for a quote to replace it, and they told me just in labor it's $800ish. Then with parts it would be $900 to $1000. You can buy a timing chain kit on ebay that comes with everything you need, for about $135 or so.

Not bad and considerable savings, but when you read what work needs to be done, it might be a little more involved than the average DIYer wants to get. You need to pull the cams and distributor, drop the oil pan and yank the crank pulley, pull off the chain cover(s). R&R old chain/sprockets/guides, then re-assemble everything. From what I read, it would probably take me a whole saturday to get it done (the 1st time at least).

If you're driftin on a budget, it's the only way to go.

Good luck!

If never done it before, is going to take you more than a day, I just complete mine tonight after 4 weeks,

allow me to explain, actual working time was 5 days, the rest of time was waiting for parts (a couple of hurricanes..... ) and had a leak after first installation and had to take timing cover off and reseal, plus the screw I drop and had to remove the oil pan,,,, Be ready.... while taking timing cover off, find that is cracked, buy used on the web, 3 days waiting, while putting everything together dropped screw on oil pan, another day wasted taking oil pan off. put everythin together, and is leakin oil from around top of timing cover... Now Im ready to have a heart attack, take everything apart again, use different gasket material and everything is good...... so far!!!

I've got about 12-14 hours and ~$160 dollars (timing kit from autozone, and a few tools that I didn't have) in on mine so far, but I haven't been in any big hurry and I've done a lot of cleaning of the engine and I had to drop the oil pan to get out all the parts of the broken guide. If you don't have to drop the oil pan it shouldn't take you more than 8 hours if you have all of the tools and parts.

Rawill is right, taking the oil pan is no sweat if you have a good lift and tools, if you are getting the kit , buy the factory OEM one. I bought the Auto zone one and started rattling 2 years later....again. The auto zone kit had only tensioners and chain......My car is leaking again, the cylinder block gasket was damaged the first time some other guy worked on the chain and now it wont seal properly, so I probably pay somebody to install a new cylinder block gasket......

I just got my timing chain replaced, It took only two days for me to get my car back. They quoted me $720 to replace both timing chains(labor included). When they began to work they found that they only needed to replace the top chain, remove the top guide and replace the tensioner and gears. This knocked my price down to $540.00. Still kinda sucks tho, Originally $170 in parts(complete kit) and $550 in labor. Went down to $205 in parts (less parts, but nissan oem) and $325 in labor.

Shop around, at one place I was quoted $400 in labor but $500 in parts(for a freakin timing chain kit).
