if i get my car tuned with just the short downpipe how much different will it be when i get the full exhaust built? theres a big gap between my down pipe and exhaust that i need to have made with a 3 inch pipe. will i need to retune my afc2? since turbos rely on backpressure im pretty sure it will different but should i be able to at least drive it with the new exhaust installed?

turbo's rely on no back pressure. So you'll be fine. If anything your power will drop just slightly. But the tune will be just fine.

When I had my exhaust capped, my boost was 6-7 psi. Once I uncapped it (free flowing, similar to downpipe only), boost increased to about 10psi. Everythign else was the same. Expect a boost decrease, when you put the full exhaust back on. It may be drastic (like my case, around 4 psi) or barely noticeable, like 1psi.Exhaust makes a huge difference in tuning, but it's really crucial when you open things up not close them down. Try putting a free flowing exhaust on a 3rd gen RX7 and it'll blow right away because the ECU is not tuned for more boost.
