I would replace it, it keeps some stuff like water from being splashed up into the engine bay, as well as foreign objects that could cause simple or complex damage.

An oil change wouldn't be as fun if you didn't have to remove it first.

It's also probably effetive for channeling air under the car.

I assume this is a plastic deal that goes under the bumper..... The G50's dont have this....

Call Joe up, and he can tell you how much they are.

Wes - your's doesn't have the big panel under the motor with like 16 screws in it?

I think that's what he's referring to and I think it helps protect the lower section of the engine as well as smooth/direct the air going under the car.

Oh well, not something that really concerns me.... Even if it was on there, I would probably leave it off.... Too much hassle everytime I wanted to do something under there....

Consequently, the engine bay has been immaculately clean since I got it.... Im not convinced that it would be worth me going out and buying a new one....

I guess the only thing I cant do is drive through 4ft high water.... Small trade off!!

as q45tech has stated,if infiniti engineers put it there,it NEEDS to be there, not one part would they spend a dollar on,if they did not feel it was important, especially parts the end consumer doesnt SEE in the showroom! imagine oneday you are following a truck that spills some gravel, all those bouncing stones!it would only take ONE to jam a vbelt and destroy the belt or pulley, much less hit an transmission cooler line or power steering line and leave you on the side of the road! use the search function,as many have stated it also helps to manage the airflow to help the cooling system.

Seems amazing that owners think they can improve their cars by omitting specifically designed and engineered parts that serve a particular function.

Don't search! Might learn something, could be dangerous! :D

Thus it is omitted. Q.E.D.

Did you ever install every screw on all the coil packs? ;) __________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

What is this, a pick on Wes thread?

Just kidding:)

My car had it's shield torn off, in a high speed manuver, that ripped a hole in the transmission pan, and dented the oil pan, and driver's side cat. This is how I got such a good deal, when I bought it.

I replaced everything, except this panel, and saw not adverse effects.....until.... I had an 85 MPH jaunt through the ditch. (For some reason, my car has special stealth powers, when it comes to 18 wheelers.)

gravel and weeds ripped through my power steering hoses, and left me diabled.

a new $220.00 (didn't buy from Joe - I probably wasted about $50.00) panel resides under my car, and I have a higher peace of mind. It fits from the fromt bumper, all the way to the cross member, and surrounds the oil pan. It has absorbing and sound deadening material on its backing.

I can change my oil without removing it, by snaking my hand around my Stillen PPO charger, and using a few rags, to eliminate oil spillage.

"How much does a lower engine cover cost?? Does anyone have any idea? its for a 1999 Q45t"

A lower engine cover for an 97-01 Q cost a little bit over $100. I don't remember how much exactly but I had a quote from Pinnacle Infiniti (prices are identical with Infinitipartsusa.com) for about $105-$108. I didn't buy the new cover, you probably understand why. Because my lower engine cover had a crack in the hole prevented it from being bolted into the chassis, instead it hanged lower and almost touch the ground. I cut a piece of 1"x2" aluminum piece from the coke can, fold it in half and drill a hole through it. Slide the cracked hole into the folded aluminum braket and bolt them into the chassis, you will have a better-than-stock lower engine cover without spending over $100. Hope that help if you are running into the same problem.

I'll never beat up on Wes...he's the guy that wrote the plenum guide.

When I had my guides done at T3 years back, the tech felt sorry for me and installed a used shield he found in the back of the shop. Mine was in such bad shape that it was was scraping the ground. How'd it get that way? Ran over debris that would pop up in the middle of the highway while doing 80 Mph or so ripping the shield to pieces. Hate to think what would have been damaged if I hadn't one.

Trust me, It's worth it to have one. Visit a junkyard if you don't want to buy new.

BTW Wes, I also have a beautiful Burgundy Q... will post pics soon.

The bottom of the oil pan is left exposed so the oil can be drained unobstructed. It basically covers everything else.

And manages the airflow so there is no backfilling of the low pressure area above it, thus it aids cooling.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45
