Hi everyone,

I went car shopping with my mom yesterday, was originally looking at a Corolla but somehow wondered over to the Nissan dealership next door. We already have 3 Nissan vehicles so that's why we were looking at Toyota's. Long story short, the sale guy offered us $19,900 CAD for a brand new '09 Sentra, automatic with the Value Option Package, plus 4 winter tires, $0 down and 0% financing for 60 months. I'm sure if we were to buy, he'd throw in the mats and a few accessories for free.

My mom told him she'd think about it, he seemed pretty disappointed since he though he had given us a pretty good deal and we didn't say yes right on the spot. When we left, he said we can talk about the price some more. My mom thinks it's a good deal but she feels the price can go down even more. What do you guy think?

Honestly the guy sounds like he needs to sell something desprerately, so I say let him bring the price down some more. On the other hand you can probably get an 09 Spec-V for that price or even less (at least where I live) so I don't know man. Good luck anyways

Thanks for the reply B15 QG18DE. The price is in Canadian so if you say you can get a Spec-V for the same price in the US, the conversion is probably around $24400 in Canadian vs $19,900 US.

The sale guy is young (mid to early 20s), he said he only started the job last Monday so I'm guessing he hasn't sold that many cars. He kept reassuring us that the price is not final so my mom is going to play hardball and see what we can get tomorrow.

No, the car is not for me, it's for my mom. She doesn't know how to drive a manual and neither do I. I actually drive a '07 Versa, automatic, of course.

I'm trying to see if it is worth it getting the 2.0S model instead of 2.0 with VOP. The main differences are the 6 speakers with MP3 capability, cruise-control, and 16" aluminum-alloy wheels but it's about $2500 more.

You can always finagle them to lower the price. Say you'll look around, or saw something at another dealer...or even if you're trading in a car, have them raise the trade in value. Especially if he just started working there, he needs the sale.

The 0% financing is a major plus though, because you're paying for just the car, and nothing else. But you can get that just about anywhere

I traded in my 07 sentra 2.0s for my spec-v. And they renegotiated with me several times. They lowered the interest rate, gave me a higher trade in value, and lowered the price of my new car. I went in there with the attitude of I already have a nice car, and I don't have to buy another one, but if you want the sale from me, you're gunna give me what I want. lol

Good luck with everything though, I hope it all works out for you!

Hey did you have to put any money down when you did the trade? I've been trying to do the same thing with my 06 Sentra but they keep telling me that I need at least $2000 down. So at this point I just about given up, although I really want that Spec-V but I don't have $2000 just laying around you know. You have any tips or suggestions that you can give me? I've really appreciate it. Thanks

No I didn't end up putting any money down. What happened was I went in there wanting to lower the interest rate with my other '07 sentra, not wanting a new car. So they gave me the numbers and stuff and said that they could put me in a new '09 sentra for 2.9% interest, but they didn't have the same car that I had...they don't make sentras with the key less start, and alloy wheels anymore...which is what I had. So I didn't wanna down grade to a regular base model. So I ended up with the spec-v but it's 8% interest...better than what I first had...16%

Anyway...they ended up giving me like $12,000 for the sentra, which is a little less than what I had left on the loan. So the rest of the loan from that sentra got added onto my spec-v loan. They wanted me to put $500 down for the spec-v but I told them no. So they just figured out the payments with no money down.

Are you making payments for your car now?

Thats definitely the way to do it, I learned that the hard way. I didnt haggle at ALL when I got my SE-R.

Since dealerships are pushing for sales I was thinking of trading for a GTi, or a 2010 Mazda3 GT. Something with more aftermarket support.

Yea i'm still making payments on my Sentra. I still owe a great deal on it. I guess since mine is an 06 the value of it wasn't all that great comparing to what i still owed. I'm going at about a year and a half since i bought the car and now im stuck with it untill i can pay it off or come up with two grand to put down on an 09. I don't know what to do and i really want a spec-v.

Yea the sentra I traded in is an '07 and has like 18,000 miles. So it's practically new and holds most of it's value. plus it's the same dealership I went through with my first car so they know who I am and were able to help me out. I wish I could help more but I would say try to work something out with them without you putting anything down. The rest of what you owe on your car now will be added onto the new loan if they don't give you all of what you owe for the trade in. Or maybe evn see if you can put lower than $2000 down. Maybe they'll let you do like $500. You'll end up with higher payments by not putting all the money down but if you really want it...

Or also try not going with an '09 look for a older model?

I hope this helps at all. Good luck with it! I hope it works out!

Thanks for the help. I tried to go for an older version also but they say that with what i will still owe after the trade in, no bank would give the total amount of the new car (or older) and what they would put from my previous loan. I guess I'm just stuck with it for now, thanks anyways.

Thats the problem with cars, they lose so much value right after leaving the lot. No matter what you do, you always lose something ($)

Sorry I couldn't be a bigger help. It sucks not being able to get a new car...I went through with it with getting my other sentra, I almost didn't get it. Did you try having a co-signer? Idk maybe that would help?

I know what you mean I'm thinking of getting a 240sx s15 or a s14 - 1996-1998 model then put a Siliva front end. I almost bought a 1996 Blue 240sx w/ 120.000 miles for $3900 but I had no where to put it. My piggy bank says noway right now so, I will wait and see Plus, I have two cars now and that keeps me busy enough all ready. Also if I do get one I have to sell one to get a 240sx. I was thinking a G35 coupe also,

PEACE OUT !!!

I'm so glad I got my 200SX for 550 cash.

Repair shop sold it to me, but they didn't bother to tell me that the alternator is shot, so I'm gonna get that swapped out this weekend.

Oh nice.

If you wanna get technical about it, taxpayers paid for it. It was the remainder of my pell grant.

I've got the money to replace the alternator, I just need to take the time to get the bad one off.

I just checked online, the core price still takes it to 128$ at autozone. I'll probably just go there.

You'll have the core charge either way, and price is about the same.

Make auto zone test the new alternator I've gotten a few faulty ones from them

Thanks for that heads up, I'll make sure they give me a working one.

Do you know of any more reliable place to get one from, just in case?

I know Autozone usually has good stuff, but if any other place has a somehow better quality for the same price, I'd rather go with that.

Just Go 2 AutoZone or Pepboys Dude Also ask If the have a warranty on the part that you need. I bought a battery once and it went bad in less than 2 years and the warranty coverd it.PLUS: Allways keep your PAPERWORK and your RECEIPTS

PEACE OUT
