hey guys i know that alot of you out there have the UR underdrive pullies on your car. what i was trying to find out is how much did you pay to have them put on (just trying to figure out what the average rate was for the whole job) or if you did it yourself how long did it take you and what kind of troubles if any did you run into, thanks, the reason im asking is i got quoted 180 bucks to install them. I told the guy thanks but i would rather buy some racks and do it myself if that what he was gonna charge me.....thanks again for any replies......:ylsuper

Its really simple if you have the tools. 180$ is a serious rip off. Its pretty easy althogh Ive never done it. I would imagine the hardest one being the crank pully, but with a crank pully holder (friend welded up a few) and I believe a 27mm it would be a piece of cake.

I wouldnt hesitate to do it on my car the second I got them, its gotta be easier then cams :) ....

The process is pretty straight foward. You remove the intake, the radiator fan, the shroud, and the lines going across the shroud. After all that's out of the way, remove the belts attached to the pulley by loosening the tensioner pulleys/bolts. When you finally isolate the pulley, use that 27mm socket on an impact gun to remove that bolt. If you don't have an impact gun, pop your car in 5th gear and use a long breaker bar and give it a nice tug. If you have an automatic, then your outta luck and have to find someway to keep the crank from spinning as you try to loosen up the bolt.

It should take you about 3 hrs if you never done it before.

And less than 2 if you have.

it took me 2 ****ing days. the belt sizes they provided for my 1993 were WRONG. I had to measure them and order the right belts, since no one around had them, labor wise it took me about 3-4 hours, I had to file down the key hole on my crank, too...:(-chet

Just out of curiosity, where did you order your pulleys from, and how much were they?

Now here is something to think about. For a long time I wanted to get underdrive pullies, but a guy that I used to hang out with blew three motors in less than a year, and he blames it on the pullies. He got them and he spun a bearing two weeks later on the first motor. Got another motor and did the same thing after about a month, and then threw a rod in a third motor that he got. He said it was somthing to do with the balancer or something and that it vibrated too bad and it was hurting the motor. He replaced the motor again, put on the stock pullies, and as far as I know he hasn't blown this one up yet. This was also a 90 240sx with the KA24E. I don't know if that makes a difference, but what he told me made me reconsider getting them. I'm not saying it will happen to you, it is just something I thought I would share. Lates

1. You don't need jackstands, you can do it on the ground in 30 minutes.2. The stories about the pulley being damaging to the motor are hearsay, the KA crank pulley does NOT have a balancer, only a dampener for the A/C so it doesn't jolt when it's engaged. I've had the UR pulley and a Mueller flywheel for going on 5 years, no leaks, no problems, car runs fine.

Did the guy abuse his engine after he installed the pulley? If so, that'll do it! :D

Like I said, I should be receiving my pulley this friday and if I have free time this weekend I'll install it and let you guys know what's up...

I already have dual electric fans and the injen intake with a k&n filter. Now with this pulley my engine should be revvin faster, we'll see...

ok well i got three out of four of my UR pullies installed today the only one i did not get to go on was the smallest on, the one that goes one the alternator, talk about a bit*H to try and get off there is no way you can get that bugger off without an air wrench so i left it on its the same size anyways just alittle heavier, i will replace it when i have the new header put on in a few weeks . but all else went ok. have not really noticed any real change at this point, hard to tell seeing its raining and all i do is spin anyways. but hey its done and didnt cost me 180 bucks:D only like 50 and thats cause i had to buy ramps and boards and a 27mm socket, so all is good.....:xfingers
