Get rid of the heavy restrictive O2 housing (aka dump pipe, or elbow) in favor of a Megan if yr on a budget. My vote goes to GReddy, since they have the divider for the wastegage, but theyre pricey. I owned an "hks style" SSAutochrome dump pipe and the flange was warped so bad it didnt even try to seal against the turbo. glad i spotted that before putting the motor in...
you obviously HAVE to get a downpipe... my Megan fits very well and I like that it has a flex joint. i also have a Megan exhaust manifold, i bought it primarily for looks and I'm pleased by it in that respect as well as in performance.
weather or not you buy a new dump or manifold, get new gaskets. It's a safe bet that the T2 flange gasket and turbo>dump gaskets are deteriorating. also buy new lock-tabs for the T2 flange hardware, you dont need them to work harden and crack and not be able to keep the nuts in place through heat cycles.
If you get a new manifold, get the S15 exhaust manifold gasket.
I'd also set aside some cash for a genuine GReddy oil pan and filter relocator kit, so you can run a bigger filter and actually have access to it (stock placement of the sr filter is such a *****!!). Stock the SR only holds 4 quarts of oil and has one of the smallest filters ive ever seen... I whole heartedly feel it's necessary to improve upon this capacity weather your an enthusiast or a grandmother.
edit: ahm.. p.s. doing my own labor w/ new clutch, exhaust manifolds, water pump, oil pan and filter relocator + new fluids and misc (couplers, t-bolt clamps, vaccuum hoses, bov) im probly at about $4500.
240sxmotoring likes to have at least 1 engine package in stock, and they'll do the labor and whatnot with a quick turnaround. Theyre kinda $$$ but they do really quality work. im having Jeff install a KAAZ this weekend just cuz i dont want to get messy with diff oil
