I am currently around 13K including the car.
Here is what just the swap cost me
$3250 -RB25DET motorset (I requested the sidemount and got it included)$1150 - Mckinney mounts and Driveshaft$350- Wiring Mckinney$220- Flex-a-lite dual fans$200-hoses, fluids, misc$100- walbro fuel pump----------------------------$4120 total
That is using the stock sidemount, and doing all the work myself. That is also doing it without fixing anything, like the speedometer, and tach.
After the swap the car was overpowering the rear wheel, so I added a VLSD and axles ($350)
Hybrid FMIC with piping ($700)Tein Flex Coilovers ($1400)Tanabe Control arms ($1300)Poly bushing set ($100)Temp Sender ($20)S13 seats were crap so S15 seats ($750)Boost gauge ($40)Apexi N1 Dual Exhaust ($650)Shortening my Down pipe (free, I know a welder)I am probably still going to end up buying the one mckinney has for $220
The extra's to make the car handle the way it should with the new found power quickly adds up.
So my advice is that if you only have $4-5K to spend, you should probably keep saving up.
Not to start another war on wiring and mounts, but the time and hastle it saved me was well worth it. Read all the wiring and mount post and you will see what I mean.
I highly recommend the SR20 if you are on a budget.
