I guess it depends on whether you want a manual transmission for sure! If so, then, as far as I know, there is no other choice in that car segment that compares in value (I forget whether the BMW 3 series has a manual available, but it would be more expensive anyway!)

By the way, I don't think the TL has an available manual - am I wrong about that?

You could also consider the Nissan 350Z if you were willing to accept the "reduced" luxury inside (it is not a bad trade-off.) Some of those models are lower in cost than the G35.

Finally, have you considered getting a used 6MT G35?

Z

EDIT: Of course, the 350Z is a two-seater ... which may be a different issue for you.

I am pretty sure the TL comes in a 6 speed...at least I know for sure it did in 2002 because a friend of mine had one.

My 2004 G35 6MT MSRP was $36,500 when I bought it new in September of 2004. I only paid a little over $31,000 for it though because Nissan North America is one of my firm's clients and we are on their VPP (Vehicle Purchase Program) for Nissan and Infiniti autos.

Yes, you are quite correct! I also went and looked at the Acura web site ... but forgot to post back in here about it.

The nav system is what's throwing the price high for the G. Does the Acura that you're looking at have a system?

Damn, that's a good deal. It sounds like they are charging more than they were back 2003 when I bought mine. I think the list for mine was about 37k.

How dare you. The 3 series come standard with manual transmissions. The TL also has a 6 speed manual with automatic as an option.

Sorry! Did not mean to ruffle any BMW owner feathers. I was pretty sure that the 3 Series had a manual available, just couldn't remember at that moment.

I am not a "BMW-aware" person for sure - have only test-driven automatic 325i and 330i a while back when we were looking for a replacement for my wife's car. She has not driven a manual in a long while, and has also had left knee surgery, making an automatic kinda essential!

Inre the TL, I did not know, but went and looked at the Acura web site for info - just forgot to post later. Thanks for the addition!

EDIT: Of course, above, I meant recent drives in BMW. In the past (mid-eighties), I drove a co-workers Tii and an M6 (I think that is what it was.) and (mid-nineties) a BMW 318 of some sort.

I Paid 23,900 for my 03 g35 sedan w/29000 miles on it 6mt sport pakage. but any ways ur comparing an infiniti to an acura. infiniti RWD...Acura FWD. i just looked at comparison prices. Acura TL 6MT base no navi 33,100. G35 6MT sedan Base 30,750. oh wait Acura 270 HP G35 298hp. And for the coupe G35 base 33,350, only $250 difference. The reason why the Acura is more is because alot of the little stuff comes standard (im comparing to the sedan). if u add the little stuff to the G35 it'll be the same price. but the big difference to me is 298 Vs 270. And RWD Vs FWD. u get more attention in the G35 than a TL. And dont get caught up in the whole Honda quality is Better quality. i worked for honda and i see the same problems as i see working for nissan.

GOSH!!~ I really want a navi but its sooooo ripp off!!~BTW TL comes with 280HP...heh not that matters!~

You can get an aftermarket nav system installed for a heck of a lot less than what the dealer charges. Granted it may not be the cool pop-up.

and your point is??? what is wrong with TL!! Why are you hating on TL? I dont really understand people like you. You don't have to diss on others like that. Not everyone has same taste as you so don't make fool out of yourself buddy!!~ be more respectful to me and others

The TL is a fine car too!

I have an Infiniti and my wife has an older Acura 2.2CL. We will be replacing her car in the near future (keep delaying it!) She is leaning towards getting an Acura TL since she likes her current Acura so much, although I have been trying to convince her to get a G35.

But, it is her choice for sure! So, if she selects the Acura TL, then that is what we will get.

Hey guy i didnt mean to offend anyone and i didnt direct ne thing towards you. im sorry honestly. I see alot of younger guys 25-33 driving G35's and I feelthat the G35 is directed towards the younger crowd two of my friends have families also one is 27 and the other is 29 they both drive sedans and so do i. even the assistant sales manager where i work hes 30 hes got two kids and he owns a coupe. even the styling of the TL kinda looks like its meant for the older gen. im not tryin to diss the TL because acura also has a sport sedan called the TSX that i see a lot of younger guys drivng. and to me the new M series looks like its meant for the older gen. acura has there own older gen cars and infinti has there own older gen cars once again im sorry if i offended you. i dont want to start a war dude that wasnt my intention.

Damn, that's crazy. Just from my personal experience I never see any younger people driving g35 coupes. I don't see "old" people persay either, but I would say in the mid 30's age group and I hardly ever see them modified in any way. That's another reason along with a bunch of others why I'm looking at a g35.

Of course now that I say that I will probably see a bunch of younger fools driving them now.

From my experience, I do see more ladies driving TL vs more males driving a G35. Guys must be into the RWD and torque. Ladies in general looks for styling and interiors. I could be wrong though.

I think you are right. I have been trying to convince my wife to get a G35 for a number of years now, and she is leaning towards the TL instead!

friends don't let friend's wives buy honda's. seriously bang for the buck the G is the way to go. right before I bought mine (last saturday) I tried just about everything from, acura, audi, lexus, volvo, and BMW. and there is something the G35 does, that the other's don't. and that is convince you that it is worth it. trust me if I had the pennies, I'd buy a matching coupe. the only other car I would go with that I did test drive is a Volvo S60R, but until they are predominantlyRWD I can't justify the price of one of those. the G35 isn't perfect. I give it about a 95% but I bought mine used @ $27000+ and I lucked out and got a fully loaded Sedan w/o a Nav system, but I'm a man I don't ask for directions anyway. put the wife behind the whell of one of these, point out all the airbags, the child safety features, and you are in there like swimwear.
