I don't know about the timing chain helping your mileage. I've improved my mileage by 8-10 mpg by putting on new wires, O2 sensor, plugs, and filters. I'm gonna do the dist. cap and rotor soon. I'll probably get a little more mileage if I ever find a replacement transmission (damn countershaft bearings!). Even if the guy said the routine maintenance has been done, replace that stuff anyway. Think about it like this: I spent less than $100, plus my own time, and I'm getting 130-160 extra miles per tank. With 93 octane between $1.85 and $1.89 here this weekend I'm saving over $20 per thousand miles. The parts have paid for themselves in less than 5K miles.
