I recently bought some wheel locks for my car and was seriously considering getting another set just for peace of mind. I figure the first set will definitely slow the thieves down but I think two sets would probably deter them altogether. At least the second set should slow them enough for me to go grab my AR15 and hold them til the cops come.

I use 20 non-standard (spline drive) lugs, which aren't going to prevent anyone that really wants them, but is going to require them to have the right spline socket.

I have one set of locks. I've dealth with taking lugs off the hard way and I believe its literally impossible to get them off without the key, the key has a design in which it only fits in one way. Its best to avoid getting locks from known stores like autocrapone/kraken/walmart.

Like rex said, if they really want them they'll get them. They do have tools to get any lock off in a matter of seconds....no one is safe!Your wheels are one thing, your car is quite another. According to my revelco guy (former theif) they can get in and take any car in a matter of seconds. Yes even the new stuff. From there their not joy riding, its straight to the chop shop. Of course whop really wants a 15 year old Q?Except maybe one of you guys!

Ya if they really want them they will take em... why work with wheel locks when its so easy to steal the whole car hah. 1 minute for old cars like ours. Be thankful you have no idea how easy it is to make off with a 2006 BMW.

An educated competent wheel thief has the universal set of keys available to the repair/store trade. It has keys that fit 99% of the available lock combinations.

Wheels locks just make the unsophisticated work harder.

Also since the locked lug weighs more than the others it causes unbalanced wheels unless special measures are taken during balancing and constant lock position location!

Yes I was just going to ask you about how it unbalances wheels... You might want to keep that in mind when getting another set

Wheel Locks being closer to the center I always use a factor of 1/4 of the weight difference as a rim out of balance adder.

I like to set my wheels within +- 1-2 grams so I stick on a substitute weight at the location where the lock will be placed [mark the wheel with a scribe] during balancing.

Many never get an accurate tire/wheel balance so they are not sensitive to errors.

Using the "spline drive" style lug on each stud, eliminates most of the lock lug vs regular lug weight imbalance. Though I'm sure there's some variance in the spline lug production process that may create variance .

Or one could get 5 different locking lug nut sets and carry 5 special sockets.

My wheels have a metal center cap that hides the lugs. It also has a lock built in. I didn't know I had the key for it unti I took it to my local shop and had my mechanic fix my tire. We looked in the Q toolbag that contains the jack and there it was.

See it?

same here, i use spline lugs. the various spline combinations pretty make your wheels theft proof. but there is a possibility.

whoa whoa whoa. i thought the q45 was equipped with a key cylinder tamper sensor. meaning that if a key wasn't used to unlock than a) the doors will not open and b) the factory alarm disengages the starter.

anyways my q has a compustar pro on it. it has starter kill and injector kill. if the compustar isn't disarmed, the vehicle will never start. even if the battery and the brain is removed.

the only way thieves are getting my joint is if they tow it!

The theif today is just as high tech as any system on the market. they really don't waste time looking for them on the street. they have insiders that go through DMV and go right to your house to pick it up while you sleep. My neighbor lost both his Mercedes while snoozing right above it! As far as the Q, Chuck, my ravelco guy said the ignition system is a joke!Of course they don't waste time on junkers like ours! Were talking exotics!

Because of high mileage I tell everyone my Q is worth $900 and I have to spend $3,000 per year to keep it running. Includes a $34 annual tag and $266 in insurance. Because of our water shortage it wasn't washed for 5 months...............natural washes by rain.Set #3 oem 94 polish wheelsNo wheel locks needed here.

True. I've had 2 cars stolen while I slept 20' away from them. If they want your car, it's gone. Still, wheel locks will keep opportunists and teenage wannabe thieves from stealing your wheels. If you have a garage, keep your car in it. I never could understand why so many people fill their garages with $500 worth of junk and crap, then leave their $50,000 cars outside all night. My buddy's wife has their 3 car garage so full of junk no one can even walk through it. They have to park in the driveway and street, and go through the front door to get into the house. He keeps his new Avalon, new Mustang GT, Silverado pickup, and Trans Am Formula outside in the driveway all night. He's had his windows shot out by pellet guns, radios stolen, and vandalism. I keep telling him, but he won't listen. Oh well.

The ignition system on the Q is comparable to an Integra. I don't understand why they make it so simple.
