I thougt about removing it and buying AAA coverage in case i get a flat tire, thinking maybe weight reduction will increase acceleration and gas mileage. Initially since I never ever gotten a flat tire, it might be worth it, but after more thinking, maybe its statistically my time to get a flat tire soon.

Or you can be like me and buy a spare 20 to match.

Will removing the 10 or so pound tire really make your car that much faster? Better bet is to just take the passenger seat, rear seats and door panels out and go on a diet! Then it'll probably run like a Ferrari

The overall wheel + tire diameter should still be the same.. it should just be the wheel to tire ratio that changes with bigger, aftermarket rims, so yeah, the spare should still fit.

I can still hold all that I need in my trunk, so the spare is stayin' put. In my old car, I parked in a gravel parking lot at my friend's dorm at FSU, and a piece of gravel got stuck in between the tread. After the drive home and then sitting overnight (at my now ex-boyfriend's house) the piece of gravel had pushed through the tire and made my tire go flat. Without the spare, I would have been screwed and missed an important class!

I'm thinking about pulling mine out.

I don't even know how to change my own tire...that's what AAA is for.

Ha.. I have AAA as well, but doing it yourself or having someone near to do it for you () is way quicker if you're in a rush, which I most always am.

Mehdi has a valid point, that it creates more room. Otherwise, unless your at the track, theres no reason to remove a safety feature of the car.

1: Remove spare tire from trunk and jack

2: Loosen lug nuts on flat tire

3: Jack car up

4: Remove old wheel

5: Put spare tire on, tighten nuts in star pattern

6: Lower car

7: Tighten lug nuts

How hard is that??????

Can I get a custom title for this writeup?

I took out my spare.I did get a flat once when I clipped an island going around in a parking lot.

spare came in handy until the next morning when I got another tire.

Then my dad told me that if it happens again just call AAA and they'll give me a tire.

So, if I am going to do that, why not lose the weight and make the trunk for functional

I leave it in, i've got roadside assistance which will change my flat for me, but i'ts more of a time issue, the time it takes to get them to my car to change the flat vs me changing it myself makes it worth it keep the spare in my car IMO.

Leave it in unless you're at the track. AAA/CAA will happily change your tire for you... IF you have the spare with you! Unlikely they will happen to have a tire that will fit the car, especially for the newer 17"/18" wheels, not to mention aftermarket 19s and 20s! Even if they had a tire mounted on a 16" wheel it likely wouldn't fit the front of the car... the stock calipers don't clear all 16" rims.

Take that mofo out and get yourself a AAA membership.Sure, the weight savings are decent, but the trunk space you gain is awesome! I'll throw my spare back in if I'm taking a trip out of the city, but other than that it lives in my garage.

On the previous car used to remove spare and rear bench when going to car shows.

I don't see any point to do that with the Altima

The point is to fill that gap with 2600 watts head ratling power, and still have room to put my hockey bag. hahaha

I just know that I wouldnt want to run that donut with my wheels and tires. Yea you are only supposed to do like 20 miles an hour on a donut. But its all freeways out hear, and doing anything less than 60 is just begging to get creamed.

With the amount of time it would take you to get the stock tools and spare out, put on, and drive extremely slow to a tire shop. My car would allready be on a flatbead tow truck and on its way to my house or the tire shop of my choosing withing 100 miles. Plus no worries of messing up the suspention or scraping anything.
