My car just started to run like shiit and I couldn't find out why. So I did a comp test and cylindars 3 & 4 had NO compression. Not even the 10psi needed to make the gauge move. So I pulled off my valve cover today and found the camshaft broken IN TWO! Between cyl. 2 & 3. I have never heard of this happening.

We think the original problem was the MAFS went out. I was doing a timing check by turning the crank pully with a breaker bar and socket. I checked timing and my dad all of a sudden desides he wants to try and start it. And the wrench was still on the pulley. we hear a loud clank, chatter, then a loud whining noise. I immediatly said shut it off and checked the wrench on the pulley. The bolt came out with the wrench. So I think it broke then.

Weird, still, that initial jar of the breaker bar hitting the side of the engine bay while connected to the crank pulley bolt would be a hit on the crank, and timing chain. I still cant believe that your cam broke in half cuz of that. Get some pics up man i wana see this!

Lol duel timming chain ftl!

yes, but the timing chain is connected to the camshaft. Sounds like it just put some major stress on the cam gear and snapped it.

I got ripped off one time trying to get a fresh ka for my car, among many other things, one of the camshafts was broken right before the #1 cylinder lobes, needless to say I was extremely pissed with the whole deal and if I ever find that guy I'll rip him a couple new ones

I just bought a 93 and we had the motor stripped down the the short block and we built it back up. My buddy, who has rebuilt plenty of KA24DEs, was torquing the bolts for the cam towers and the cam on the exhaust side snapped in half. Luckily we had 2 extra cams...but still...idk...

The MAFS was the initial problem why my car wouldn't run right. The cam broke when he tried to start it.

Crank gear loose making chain jump causing top gear loose and camshaft break?

Nah wouldnt be that, even if your crank bolts loose it doesnt affect your timing chain. It was the sheer force of the breaker bar hitting the engine bay. That hit jarred the crap out of the double timing chain, and those dont break, so the next weakest link must be the cams. Still though its pretty amazing.
