Just curious, but how many of you have gotten an SR with spun bearings or oil pressure problems? I got mine with a spun bearing, and a friend got one swapped, took it out and lost oil pressure within 5 minutes. I also have seen guys that have had no problems at all, more than not. Is this more of an isolated thing, or is it fairly prevalent?

Nope, no oil problem here. That problem would be related to what quality motors your importer got in. It's also a good idea to replace the oil pump before you swap in your SR. I mean come on, these are junk yard motors we're getting, they sit around for who knows how long before they are even picked up.

So next time:1. Buy from a reputable importer2. Replace oil pump 3. Install oil pressure gauge

anything with stock oilpan and heavy throttle will do that. I try and stay safe with buying sr's by buying them an automatic and just put a 5spd trans on. Figure no one wants to beat on an automatic stock sr lol

I don't get what being un-tuned has to do with it unless you've got a bigger fuel setup or built motor.

Untuned = too much fuel = cylinder wash = fuel and oil mixed = chemical break down of oil = spun bearings

It gonna more common with Red Tops SR's now seeing that these engines are around 16 year old

I highly recommend always replaceing the oil pump in R/T SR's

I had a friend's SR with a Bad oil pump when we first dropped it in.

How would you be getting too much fuel if it's a stock setup though?

well he said he was untuned so that would mean he had bigger injectors and the ECU was not tuned for them so it was running too rich

I had a bad o ring leak in mine and literally hydrolocked cylinder 4. But washing down cylinder walls will spin bearings for sure.

When I had my 550's in before I got my motor running properly I hydro locked my motor several times. Sucks, and changing oil gets expensive after you do it every day for a week.

About a month and a half after my swap I lost oil pressure. when i first started the engine it held 18psi at idle when warm. Then i noticed it drop every couple drives. wound up getting down to 11 psi at idle. Now the car is sitting, waiting for parts from money I dont have But the moral is that whenever you do a swap you should always replace as much as you possibly can with new oem parts that way you dont get these problems

Yessir! We should get a how to thread going for oil pumps. Remove old pump, insert new.....
