How many of you have built a homemade turbokit?

I just wanted to know how many of you have pieced a homemade kit? How much did it cost you? What was your setup? Also what did you have to fabricate to make fit. I wanted to know because im gonna have about 2g's pretty soon an im thinking of either piecing a kit or just buying those ebay turbo kit for the KA an just buy my own intercooler since most of them dont come with one. Oh yeah can you tell me how much boost you are running on your kit, stock internals?

An my last question how much boost should i push a automatic KA to?

I’m going to talk about my current plans, my home made turbo kit will cost around 4500 (this includes absolutely everything, down to the gauges and wide band AF meter)

I’m fabricating, intercooler piping, down pipe, exhausts, and manifold.

The automatic tyranny theoretically you can push it beyond what the engine will hold, power doesn’t kill automatic trannies…heat does, so what you will need is an oil cooler, there are a bunch of them for under 30 bucks, make sure you’ll get one.

My setup look at my siggie

Turbo with WG and DP Freshley rebuilt $150SAFC-II $200injectors so far $40Intercooler $17 junkyardT3 weld flanges $20Exaust mani flange ~$65Hacked MAF parts ~$7TT fuel filter $5IC piping $?Oil lines ?$Tuning anywhere from free to big $

anyway that totals $504 so far. I expect to spend about $1000 total for everything. You will have a lot more little expenses than you expect though. And I found a few VERY good deals and you may aswell. I have done other things to prepare for the turbo aswell but I cant remember all the prices and such.

I'm virtually done with mine and I wont go into detail on it because it's over your budget. Basically, eq length mani, 72 lb. injectors, jwt ecu, custom ic and piping, t3/t4 turbo and all forged internals. Somewhere >5k all done.

Turbo(T3/T4): $560Manifold(JGStools): $300370cc Injectors(used SR): $160Wastegate(35mm tial): $175SAFC 2: $295BOV(undecided): $200Intercooler(undecided): $350Gauges(autometer): $300

Though it's a little more then 2000, total is 2340, it's somewhat close. But then I'm also factoring in about another 200 for other stuff I will need such as gaskets. So my total setup should be around 2500.

Hey Daniel, yours only cost you a t3/t04e? That's not too bad ;) I'd actually really like to pick up a 97se and do a very basic turbo setup on it, hacked maf, 370's, jgs or revhard mani, t3/t04e, and just leave it at 8-10 lbs. of boost as a daily driver. Too bad I dont have 12 grand laying around :(

yea im planning on running 6-10psi on mine. ive had my car for 2 years before i got my turbo. you could probably pick up a 97 or even a 95-96 for around 6 or 7 grand. mine was $7500 but its in excellent cond. and then spend around $1500 on a turbo setup like this. im sure you could do it for under $10,000.

Current budget is 2500ish for the turbo - exactly what I paid for the car.

600 - turbo200 - mani200 - wg500 - e-manage100 - injectors/o-rings/fuel filter200 - ic100 - ic piping200 - dp100 - oil feed200 - gauges100 - misc

will set me up at about 200-240 around a half bar. this gives me room to grow, though:

600 - engine internals500 - ka shortblock300 - injectors

and that's it for 400hp. :)

Here's what it cost me... i'm making this list to figure it out for myself as well as for everyone elses amusement...

used *mint* t3 63exh 60int internal wg- $200proper turbine housing to keep a/c and steering- $160 (ouch)JGS unfinished log mani- $250Mandrel bends for intercooler pipe and downpipe $100BOV $150370cc injectors used $85safc (new) $200FMU (kind of a waste..was original plan) $100starion intercooler + modifications $150MSD BTM (5462) w/built in ign amplifier $160MSD knock alert $150Coolant/fuel/oil/vacuum lines (stainless) $125Silicone couplers (reducers, straights, clamps) $100Borla 2.5 stainless muffler/mandrel bent custom exh $250Boost gauge (ebay pos until defi can be located) $40A/F gauge (defi dgauge white face- need above!!) $130walbro 255lph $85Insulation $100

2600 so far...almost could have bought a kit, but so much more satisfaction having done it myself. Theres more incidentals that i left out i'm sure, but then again, some of these things aren't necessary for running low boost (5-6psi). I lost a very expensive motor in my last car due to poor tuning and detonation, and also partially due to the fact it was a ford- and i'm not taking any chances this time around, so i opted for the larger inj, safc, detonation monitor, boost retard module, and a/f gauge. You could also go with cheaper bov, cheap turbo..don't recommend that one, but you get the picture. Bottom line, if you like to make **** yourself, build your own....If you want boost the easy way buy a kit. Nobody will know the difference when they're staring at your taillights.
