those of you with s13's, 14's, what have you.

How did you get your car registered if it wasn't legal?

i really don't think it's a good idea to solicit information like that on a public forum.

This is very easy. Anyone who is running a CA, SR, or RB is not smog legal. There is a federal law that says they are not allowed. Also, anyone who has modified their OEM emission system equipment is not smog legal. It does not matter if it passes emissions, or if your state doesn't check for such things. It is illegal as mandated by federal law. Therefore, almost anyone on these boards who has modified their vehicle in some way is in violation of smog laws and therefore illegal. Just because you register your car or pass emissions in your particular region does not make it legal. It just means that you slid one by on someone.

As for how to get it to pass, most people will not post that information because there can be serious consequences for registering illegally modified vehicles.

Yep, easy answer. Nobody is. You would need to have a CARB certified turbo kit for your KA, and every piece of OEM emissions still on the car and functioning to be boosted and smog legal.

In California, just register your car in a county that only requires a smog check upon change of ownership...then you never have to worry about smog checks, test only and other BS. If you know someone with a place out there, use that address. Go to

http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/ZIPAREA/ZIPLOOKUP.ASPX

(Click view area map...)

for the map of counties that have no smog requirements. My friend had his Camaro registered in Lake County prior to his car turning 30. Unfortunately, I heard that the lawmakers in Crackramento want to change this to make smog checks mandatory in the entire state. If anything, register it in an area that isn't enhanced (test only = major headache/PITA).

Funny I see this, I took my car to E-Check yesterday(Ohio Emissions testing) and my car failed. The guy I guess knew that 240's didn't come turbo and he asked me if I turbo'd the stock motor,I said yet. he popped the hood and poked around a little, then shut it and went on with the test(keep in mind I have a red top, stripped of EVERYTHING, powersteering, AC, heat, all emissions, clutch fan, NOTHING. I passed the visual inspection, I don't know how. I have a test pipe with a heat shield I made over it, he poked it. and checked yes on "Catalytic Converter Present". It passed everything except for Hydro Carbons, and I guess Carbons. Your allowed to have 1.217% CO(I think thats carbons?) and I had 7. something. And Hydro carbons(HCO) you can have 144. something, I had 320. something. Anyone know anything I can do to get it to pass?

Run a cat, that'll reduce your CO emisions. Run leaner, it'll pass HC.
