New member here. I have an '08 2.5 CVT with about 59,000 miles on it. Everything seems okay, except I have been experiencing what I believe is CVT whine. I took it to the dealership ( ) where I was told it was my alternator making the noise and that it needed to be replaced. This was covered under my premium warranty or whatever so I told them to go ahead. This seems to have quieted the noise a bit, but it is definitely still audible, usually kicking in after extended highway driving? Any input on this?

But on to the point, please post how many miles you have on your coupe and how she's been treating you. I know this thread has been made before, but I didn't see a recent one and am interested. Thanks.

Bought the end of July 2008 (so three full years) and as of today have 22,705 miles. The only time I've ever taken it back to the dealer was the first week because there was a chip in the paint of the door jam that had a pin sized spot of rust. Otherwise it's been mechanically fine. I have the heat shield thump (flex) that no one has really been able to fix. Occasionally I'll get some drop in RPM's on acceleration when under light throttle when the CVT seems to be hunting/confused on ratio choice, but that seems to be more "normal" behavior than anything. This is the longest I've ever kept a car and I'm still happy with it. Plan on doing a +2010 front end conversion at some point, I want the new hood/bumper!

I had the heat shield clunk as well. My dealership fixed it for me about 14 months ago and I haven't heard it since. Absentmindedly, I didn't even ask what they did, but I asked what it was making the noise. They told me it was the heat shield flexing, and whether they replaced it or modified it, I do not know. Thanks for the other input man.

I'm coming up on 2 years in October, and I have about 18k miles logged on my coupe. No problems here, aside from the heatshield rattle on my injen intake.

2008 3.5SE CVT, just broke 21,000 yesterday. I've only had it for 16,5xx though, but it's treated me well since I got it. It's my third car, but my first car with paint, A/C, and other nice amenities :gapteeth:

Here are my old cars. 1995 Civic CX, then 1997 Integra LS. Really fun cars, I'll be getting another one in the future for sure... I definitely miss them both. Although the Civic a little more, just cuz it was my first car.

2008 3.5 CVT--3 years 7 months 20,900 Mechanically it's been perfect so far. Brakes still have plenty of meat left, oil changes every 5k-7k with royal purple, tire rotations every 5k. It was keyed once (fixed), but other than that no problems.

My wife's 2008 2.5s CVT coupe is at about 35,7XX and no mechanical probs as of yet, had the heat shield rattle fixed in the first year, and radio replaced in the second year.

what's this heat shield problem you guys are all talking about???
I've had my car for a little over a year and a half.....im pushin 14,500  but shes been loyal. Even being a 2.5 cvt and all, it still blows away all the little b18, b20, BS little ricers that pull up along the freeways. still wish i would have got the 3.5

on a different note, how does the 3.5 a/c compare to the g35/350z??

There's a rattle on the heat shield when you start up the car during cold starts. If you search for it there's lots of info about it.
While I'm at it, my sedan mileage is at 86xxx miles its an 07 got it on march.

Mine will be 4 years on Oct. 17 and I'm at 69k miles. Just about to hit 70 but I haven't driven the last couple days. My wheel wells are torn up, dents galore and my Stillen Fascia is chipping like crazy. Got keyed once on each side of my car (different occasions) and had an incident with a carbon fiber hood destroying itself. Also cracked my rack and pinion my first year of owning the car.

But she runs beautifully and I really hope to have another vehicle before this one hits 100k because that will be a very sad day for sure

I absolutely hate when people mess with somebody's car. I was driving about 55 on my way home late one night when an egg comes flying out of these woods on the side of the road and hits my hood. Chipped my paint in a little circular pattern. I have also had a full beer bottle thrown at my passenger door while I was away from my car. Made two dents and chipped the paint badly. I don't even want to know who did it. I don't need any legal problems. ;)

Do you guys think it's too late to start putting money into my car at 60k miles?

I've never had the head shield rattle, I have the thump. It's common to the 2.5 coupes and sedans. When idling sitting still at a traffic light or in the drive-thru you'll hear randomly what can only be described as a thump (think of a dented plastic milk jug popping back into shape) from under the car. One of the head shields under there has too much flex in it and when its either warming up or cooling down it'll pop randomly. It's not a "problem" more like an "embarrassing issue".

Yea that sounds embarassing, but hasn't happened to me. Only problem I have is that sometimes my car lags it from a stop, like the brakes are on, until about 15mph. It's also happened when I've stepped on them hard, trying to avoid dogs :tisk:
