I have 44,500 miles on my stock conti's and they still have some tread left, but not much. I think your tires have worn out a bit early. Might want to get an alignment done when you get you next set of tires. I know my alignment was off from the factory and it was fixed for free when I complained about pulling and a crooked steering wheel.

The handling was never that great in slick conditions to begin with on the stock conti's but now it is getting worse with mileage. I expect to replace these in another 10-15k miles with a slightly wider profile tire for better cornering (195/60R15).

I replaced mine at 62,000 miles (and still not at the tread wear indicators), but I'm pretty easy on them other than putting a few miles on them each day...!

I only got about 30k miles on 2 and 33k miles on the other 2. And yes that was rotating every 5k.

But was driving 100 miles/day on them.

I have about 28k on mine and they still look brand new. I've only had one alignment done but most of my driving is highway.

tires are not an item that I push to the max; especially to the wear bars. If you are noticing an impact on handling, I recommend that you suck it up and replace them NOW. Much cheaper than dealing with an accident. Fred

I wore out the Conti's at 40,000 kms....bought a set of falcon's ZR's and it's only been 30,000 km's on these ones and they are pretty well worn out too,,,,,

Having trouble finding a good set of tires that are goign to last longer then 30,000 KM's.

My car was purchased with 4 different tires on all four corners lol and it's at 33k miles right now.

Just purchased a brand new set of 205/60R-15 Sumitomo HTR 200, should be at the front door on Monday and hopefully have the tires installed and car aligned during the weekend.

Tire wear versus safety/handling is a trade-off. The longer the tire is designed to last, the harder the rubber which equates to less handling capability. The softer the rubber, the stickier it is which gives you better car control. I prefer to sacrifice wear for better performance. I also do not take a tire down to the wear bars which increases the risk of hydroplaning. My target is 25 to 30 k out of a tire.

I did have winter tires too for the Accent. So the tires came on and off every so often. The winter tires are made softer which is why one should not use them in the summer. Apparently the softer the winter tire the better. I'm not really sure why though. I have had it explained to be but cannot really remember.
good call ilmv.......hey i have 29k on mine and they look brand new......if i come into some money those hubcaps and steel rims are goin..........bye bye............

What is your definition of tread? In general terms, the wear bars are the maximum tread life which is not worth approaching. There is a marked difference in handling when old tires come off and new ones go on; even when you are not at the wear bars. Not worth it for that extra 5 k. If you are trading, I agree.

Softer = better grip. Harder = less traction and more sliding.

I honestly don't know how to tell when tread is good and bad. All I know is that it was my dad's car and he checked it all the time because I was commuting an hour each way to school. He makes sure everything is good and if the tires were no good he would have bought new ones. Safety is not something we would jeopardize to save a few bucks. He actually offered to buy my Accent new summer tires that were wider and a little bit more appealing. But I told him not to waste the money on new tires just for looks if the old ones were still good, which they were.

He checks my V too every month for tire pressure and the tires. He knows how to check the car to make sure its good.

Okay so I get now why the softer tires are better for the winter now. Thanks
Why can't you check them yourself? I use a digital tire gauge that has a tire tread measure and is backlit, good for at night if you don't have a light source.

Yeah, I would never ask somebody to do that. I just do it myself, it's a simple task.

I have made sure my 16 year old daughter who is driving knows how to put air in the tires, change a flat, understand tire tread, etc etc. Daddy is not always going to be available when things come up. On the other hand, I do check everything every week just to make sure all is in working order. If I find something out of sorts, I will show her what I found so that she understands.

I don't think there is anything wrong with a dad helping out his own daughter. Some of my friends don't have dads that they can ask for help, or their opinion, so I am very lucky and grateful that I have a dad who is always willing to help me when I have a question or problem.
Sounds like exactly the same thing!!!!

I have 13,000 on two of the contis and about 4,000 on the other two. The driver side tire developed are bubbles on the inside tire wall. I took it to the dealer and the tech noticed the passenger side was doing the same thing. Both tires were replaced under warranty for free due to faulty manufacturing. I was advised to keep a close eye on the other two tires that didn't get replaced and to bring them back ASAP if I noticed anything. The dealer told me it was an odd occurance.
