I have a 2000 Infiniti I30t with 149,000 miles on it. I am the original owner. I have changed the oil and have had other service performed religiously. Love the car but repairs seem to be coming more frequently (new starter ($500), a couple of mysterious "service engine soon" lights ($3-400 each, etc.). I've been offered a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora with 39,000 miles on it for $5,000. While driving an Olds will make me feel like I should apply for AARP membership, does the mileage on my beloved Infiniti suggest it's time to give it up? How many more miles might it have left?

Driving an Olds Aurora will make you wish you had taken a hammer to your... nevermind. It's not worth it. You're at a point with your Infinity that you will be doing the serious repairs to it. It will continue to give you great service as long as you keep putting money into it (but I would never take a car to a dealership for a check engine light, always get the code pulled and check the board for help to make sure they aren't soaking you for money for no reason). But this is your choice.... I wouldn't do it myself though

I would invest $70 in a OBD II scanner. It will tell you why your car's CEL is on and you can come on here and we'll help you out.

As far as when to let her go? I just let my 96 I30 go. She had 277k miles on her. You tell me.

My mother wanted an Aurora for a while, she ended up with an I30 instead. I did some research on the Auroras and they seemed to have a great deal of electrical problems.

yea that obd II scanner would be a good idea, and maybe you should do some work yourself. that would save you some money on labor. Just pick up a haynes manual for your car. that brake everthing down really good for people that dont work on cars very often.

If you buy that Olds you will regret it. The repairs you are doing are par for the course with a Infiniti/Nissan. Trust me you have a great car do not give up on it. Find a local shop with angie's list. They can do the job just as good.

How much do you like your I30? Would you feel better keeping it and invest your money as needed? If you sell off the I30 and pick up the Olds, you could probably come out as a wash in the cost department, but what about the additional unknow costs of the Olds. I had a 2001 Pontiac Bonne with the Supercharged V6, nice car, but my 2001 I30 has better fit and finish. I feel that I am happier now than I would be if I still had the Poncho.Just some experiences... --Mike

Would you believe another 149,000? Just replace parts as they wear out.

If I can put 303,000 on a 1992 Max on the same engine and auto transmission, I see no reason why you cannot get at least another 100K.

I would never replace a 2001 I30T with a old-man Olds, regardless of the price.

Thanks to all who responded. I am keeping my Infiniti. Let's see if I can get another 150,000 miles out of it!
