How many here have bought their motor, replaced the timing belt, water pump, fluids and not ended up having to replace the turbo, bearings, oil pump, ...?

Also post the mileage, vendor, and initial startup procedure.

http://www.jhotexports.com~45k milesTurned the key and it started. Nothing fancy.

All I did was fluids, plugs and such. I have had to replace a few sensors and such, but nothing major yet.

I replaced the Water Pump, Spark Plugs, Timing Belt, Thermostat, PCV Valve, ALT Belt and Rear Main Seal before I put my motor in.

But now the seals on my turbo are going bad and there is some shaft play.

I plan to pull the motor out very soon and rebuild it from the ground up. I am going to replace the piston rings, oil pump, have the head rebuilt, and a whole lot of other bs. The only thing that sux is I plan on doing this over a very long period of time and wont have my CA18 back in till next year. Oh well, better to do it right the first time and not cut any corners anyways.

timing belt, water pump, thermostat, plugs, pcv valve, cam/crank seals, rear main seal and put a used t28 on.

3 months later, smoke under boost and a rod knock. #4 rod bearing was toast and there was low compression on 1 cylinder (though that looks to be caused by debris between the valve and the cylinder head). But had the block checked out, piston -> cylinder wall clearance was almost twice spec. Wish i'd rebuilt it before...

timing belt, plugs, hoses, ect. It looked like it had a new water pump on it so I didn't touch it. I'm in the middle of a rebuild now due to rings being in horrible shape. The turbo seemed alright though, I don't think it was the original though. Darn Venus...

Awesome thread! This is some great info, I was wondering myself what maintenance needed to be done to CAs, and how many people had problems right off the bat.
