Ok, I was wondering how much do yall pump when you are about to be on empty? When I fill up to a full tank, my car feels really sluggish. And dont you get better miles when your car is holding less weight?

yes you get better gas milage when you weigh less, but why would you go to the gas station and fill in 1/4 or even 1/2 when prices keep changing everyday, and the mpg is probably offset by you having to go to the gas station more than you need to.

a gallon of gas weighs about 6.15 lbs, a full tank of gas is 20 gallons ~ 120lbs. Wow, i didn't know gas weighs that much But hey, I have a 3.5 so it's hardly noticible. Always fill up, save trips to the gas stations ... well, i have to go once a week already

Not sure if there is truth to this or not............I was told if you fill up half tank all the time, it's no good and I cannot remember the reason for it. I always fill up, car does not feel sluggish at all.............maybe it's the gas you are getting from the gas station?

I think the consensus is evident here. MagicM has solid reasoning, by filling up a full tank, you are saving unnecessary trips. However, if you are going to the track for a 1/4 mile, it's probably best to have about 1/2 tank full.

The reason why they tell you not to fill up half way, is mostly for cold weather reasons. It leaves more air in the tank which might freeze your gas. Also People should fill up to full incase of emergency if you ever get stuck in traffic or any other unforseen incident.

Octane has a super low freezing point and i doubt you live in a place that hits - 40+?

From what i've heard is that when you add small amounts of gas to your tank from different manufacturers, you get different types of sediment that set into your gas tank. And i guess different fuels (If not purchased from the same place) contain different contaminents. Also, mixing gas is bad.. I guess cuz pump gas has 100000 chemicals ( like cigarettes) and each manufacture is different.

I read somewhere cars get better fuel mileage when their tanks are full, so you should not go under 1/2 tank at anytime to get the best mileage.

Yeah i thought on a full tank you get more mileage bc of fuel pump... idk anything though..

Gasoline's freezing temp (when it starts to freeze) is roughly -97 deg F. But since it is made up of many different hydrocarbons and water content, it has a large range for an actual freezing point...so basically water is bad for that, but all in all gas shouldn't ever truely freeze.

haha, looks like someone took good notes in general chemistry...remember a little something called "freezing point depression" and "metling point elevation"

Notes in general Chemistry, lol. Try more like copy and paste, lol. Don;t give me that much credit.
