so im doing a swap in my 90 coupe early next year and have had my hart set on an rb25 for some time now. it will be my daily and someone brought up a good point about it being hard to get parts for when u have any problems and i should get an sr cuz its easier to get parts for and would not be down as long. how many of u guys use ur rb powered 240's for a daily? any problems with getting parts and the car being down for a long period of time?

ive been driving mine for about a year , parts are not that hard to find as a matter of fact some parts are change able with other nissan's like the 300zx , what you should do before dropping that motor in change everything so you wont have problems in the future (ex: oil pump, water pump, belts , gaskets , oil and spark plugs, and sometimes but rare clutch ) and it would keep you trouble free for a good while .........i drive mine for 50 miles a day with a welded LSD, no power steering ,no heater and no a/c lovin it........

mine sees about 300 miles a week atleast for the past year. Its been pretty reliable, the only thing that ever went out was my fuel pump and my alternator but those are all maintinence items, im actually about to change timing belt/water pump. O also I beat the **** out of my car.

not a problem really if you're at stock or close to stock power levels.

These motors are like any other motors but special. If you keep your motor up to date with all maintenance stuff and replace all necessary than I don't see why you should have a problem. The problem people have is the first time they drive it after the swap. You have to work out all the bugs. Once you've worked out all the bugs and problems you should be all set and wait for something to bad happen just like any other motor.

First things first, poor grammar makes baby Jesus cry...

I have daily driven my car for a couple years (or close to that) with no major problems. I would seriously recommend replacing all the wear items as suggested above. I didn't and wish I had for piece of mind.

Do the swap yourself if your capable, it will pay off when it comes time to fix something.

If your paranoid about say.. a coilpack dying on you just get a spare. Its not THAT big of a deal to get parts. Tuneup items are comparable to 300zx's.

Evan

EDIT; my car is not stock either. I made a roadtrip to GA with no issues at all. About 2500 miles in a week. This includes MULTIPLE passes down the strip.

I would swap my car again in a heartbeat.

on a side note bronze mfp logged nearly 50kmi on his swap over the course of 2 years, never left him stranded or gave him any issues.

i've daily driven my '20 since jan '05, been down for a dead fuel pump, a broken shifter fork, dead alt and bad coils. nothing out of the ordinary. all were easily fixed. i live in middle ga 2 hrs south of atlanta. i've been to atlanta numerous times in it, i've driven to valdosta ga (2 hrs south) numerous times, i've driven to orlando fl a few times. Oh and i drive it like its stolen, the car loves being driven.

Same I drove the car with botched wiring an a bad ecu from Sept 06 till July 07, I did all the maitnence items such as listed above,nd a new clutch and real main seal.

I have only not been driving it since July due to re-wiring the whole swap and finding out the ecu was bad once done, then I decided to do major upgrades..and there is some trouble shooting left, but still other then the lean idle I can go out in minus 1 temps and first click of the key she fires up.\

Good upgrades to avoid some issues ppl have is a 110 amp nissan quest alternator, either a Grand National coil upgrade or some splitfire units,J30 ignitor, wiring harness by Carl H,and keep it stock up the boost a little till you can afford another car to drive.

I daily drive my 500+hp RB25, but it's in an R32 and I live in Japan. Parts are WAY cheaper, but I still beat the snot out of every day and it's stock as hell. I've never even had the valve covers off (big turbo though).

I've been driving my rb20 hatch for a month and a half and it's super reliable.

I would reccomend a new fuel pump, new plugs, and rebuilt alternator at the very least. If nothing else, your car has to be reliable.

For some helpful insight, the only problems I had with my swap were a small fuel leak, and bad coilpacks on a few cyl. Other than that, it's fine.
