how long to do headgasket?

as i stated. how long to do a head gasket? 14 hours?

not too long. Takes me about half an hour to remove the intake manifold now, another half hour to an hour to install the intake manifold, about another half hour with the exhaust manifold, another hour or two to get the cams, and head off, and reverse. Should take about a day though to be on the safe side.

keep things very organized and dont scratch any of the valvtrain parts. Have boxes, baggies and foam pads handy a head of time. :)

So if one is replacing the headgasket only for the sake of safety and performance (and not because the previous one went bad) is it necessary to get the head and block machined?

no, you don't need to.

remember to have torque specs for the cams and etc. ready too. its best if you are doing headgasket to do valve springs, cams, rocker arm stoppers and intake manifold while you're at it (and if you have some extra $$ saved up.)
