I took my car in to the dealer today for an oil change (I'm going to do it myself with the part Pozy sent me, but it's cold out now ), and they inspected the brakes. They said the rears have 2mm left and the fronts have 6mms. They suggested I replace the rears. The car has 30,199 miles on it. Is that about normal for the brakes on a G? They said the fronts should get to about 40 - 45K before replacing.

I did search too, and look in the FAQ, but didn't see anything.

I'm at 72k miles

4th set of tires too

How fast do you drive how much "fun" do you have driving.

Telcoman is still on his original set of brakes

I do some 'spirited' driving from time to time. No track though.

Compared to your replacement record mine doesn't sound bad at all

Telcoman having over 100K on his brakes is amazing

I did not get even close to that with any of my G. But I drive it hard. On my 08 I've got new set just a month or 2 ago at 18k. Theyu give me the rotors and the installation free I paid for the pads. I thought that was generous since it was all my fault.

It all depends on how you drive. Pads are cheap though...replacing rotors all the time can get expensive (gwoods!)

Thanks for the replies, I guess mine doesn't sound too far out of norm - worse than some, better than others.

The first set of rotors I found a company in CA that had a brake machine and blanks and had them make me drilled/slotted rotors they were less then $300 to my door.

Now there are a bunch of companies on ebay that sell drilled/slotted rotors for the 07+ sedans so I jsut picked one.

I like the posi quiet ceramic pads. They last on the street and can stand up to drag racing. I have not found a set of pads that A) work on the street and B) can stand up to Firebirds short track on slicks. I think in the future I will end up changing brakes to go racing like I change tires.

The pad material melts and then falls apart when it cools after about 30min of hot laps.

Here at the dealer, I'll tell you exactly what you want to hear. Maybe.Rear brakes (non akebono) have lasted between 26k and 38k on 95% of cars. Highway drivers, engine brakers, etc have had them closer to 40. The longest I've seen so far was 50. The shortest, 18. But the guy lives in DC, so, yeah. 90% of the time you spend in a car is with your foot on the brakes anyway...Fronts, I've seen go between 35 and 50. Hope thats good for you.

Our G35 with 42K miles needs new brakes on it now they are getting close to the end of the life. It seemed that they do not last as long as my other cars brakes have, I could get 60K miles from other cars.

30000 miles went through 1 set of rotors front back. geting about 15000 miles from each. and one set of pads front and back. seems to me like they will need to be changed out soon.
