i've got a 94 q45a with 90,000 miles. how many miles should this car go without major problems? also, i'm thinking of selling. how much do you think its worth? i think i need to do some work on the active suspension since it seems to ride kinda harsh.

If teh active suspension rides harsh it means the accumulators need a re-charge,cost at dealer approaches book value of the car but a member texca oil a Chemical Engineer has figured out a way to do it a lot cheaper.

There are a whole bunch of threads on "actives" check in this forum..

The actsus qulaifies as a majoy rep[air but transmission and engine will last a long time assuming frequent ATF + motor oil changes.

Nice typing fred...

Anyway.. Your in luck... T3 automotive is right there in atlanta... I would highly recommend you take it there, spend $70 they will write you up a laundry list of things to do..... Do a search for T3 plenty of info there (thread in online mechanic right now).....

Depending on its condition (cosmetic) a decent 94 active Q with shot active suspension (actives now adays are worth less, since theyre mostly not good) id say would be worth 4500 on a good day... thats taking into consideration your miles, average exterior and decent interior (normal wear)...

The engine and transmission are good for a while as Fred said... Why not give us some more details on the car......

You can get recharged accumulators for the active suspension from me for $150 each now.I have 138K on my 94--and it is running better all the time. Absolutely reliable. Change transmission fluid with a complete flush. along with all the other fluids (brake, oils, coolant.

I am going to get well over 250K out of both my 1994 Q45's.

Ditto on the T3 suggestion.

No, at 105,000 the previous owner ran over a truck brake drum at 80 MPH. It trashed the oil pan, exhaust pipe, and transmission vavles/pan.

That is how I got my hands on it. I bought it broken, and had a local transmission sho re-build it.

The rebuilt one has 109,000 on it.

It shifts fine, but has always slipped a little too much IMO. I think it will last another 50,000 miles, with one more flush and filter change. I might need to start adding some Lucas treatment as well.

Does it really "slip" or are the shifts just sloppy...

Anything over 5,000 RPM, and it slips in to the next gear. Low RPM shifts are fine, if not a little harsh sometimes. I can really feel the torque converter locking up. When it is cold, it tales about 2 t o3 seconds to drop inot drive, first thing in the morning.

The silver car will spin th tires off the line, but is a little weak at the top end. It wants to shift around 5,500 to 6,000 RPM, when floored.

The black car is a little sluggish at low RPM's idles a little high, and has a slight hesitation, but screams all the way to 6,800 RPM, if I floor it. Once it gets going, it is gone.

Sounds like a great transmission rebuilder you want to recommend to your friends.............we have seen 4-5 real experts destroy the RE4 transmission.

Lucas what awful stuff............not for a Jap transmission...........BG Conditioner or Lubeguard Red if you have to add something to ATF.

Wholesale Transmission, in Birmingham, AL They have done several Q45's (especially, since Birmingham has many Q45's running around).

I have heard a lot of criticism of Lucas, but all the web sites I have seen, only test the stuff at room temperature, not at 200+ degrees. I have never even heard of the others you mentioned. I will do some research. The black car has Amsoil synthetic, in the transmission. I might flush th esilver one, and put it in her, as well. It's about time. It has been about 35,000 miles since the last flush.
