rev sensor.. as in speed sensor on the transmission?

If so.. yeah you can drive without it hooked up. You'll have no speedometer, and I think the trans shifts a bit less smoothly.. But shouldn't hurt anything long term.

My speedometer does work. i do notice the shifting is little less smooth and also takes higher rpms to get the transmission to shift into higher gears.

Do you know logic behind this? I wonder what causes less smooth shifting. I'm curious...

well i read the transmission post. zerothread?id=96505

I am having problems with the car not shifting between 1st and second. The car sometimes needs to achieve 5-6000rpms before it will shift.

So i should not believe what i read. or change out the speed sensor or the tran sensor or the tcm or the trans Solenoids? i have been through a lot of repair with this car already. I just want some straight answers.

I've driven with mine unplugged when I had the same problem. It does take longer to shift. The harder shifts are usually from the clutches engaging with more pressure in the transmission. If you can imagine making shift with an manual the same way (meaning: rev, clutch in, shift gear, dump clutch) the higher revs would cause a hard shift. Continued use will put an extra load on the clutches in the transmission as well as the engine. Remember with a manual you CAN drive sanely most of the time and have some fun when you want. The auto will shift pretty much the same way all the time, which means extra strain on the transmission - as well as the motor. Unless you want certain things to happen for a reason (coming from a guy who is now doing an SR swap and a 5-speed swap at the same time). My KA motor finally broke the shaft on the water pump (talk about about a horrible noise). It was my excuse to pull it.. I would think a sensor is a much cheaper replacement. Just my thoughts. Good luck either way.

Thanks for your input. I went outside and plugged it back in. My question now, is revolution sensor is the VSS(speed sensor) or the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) What is the Revolution sensor? The person wrote its like the governor for the transmission. When you unplug E13 the shifting problem goes away between 1st and 2nd gear.

People spoke of changing the trans fluid or even replacing their trans and still having the same problem. E13 is what on the wiring diagram? I have that 240sx directory but not finding what E13 is.

I appreciate your help and further if needed, or anyone else reading this post.

I had the same shifting problem and followed the thread completley and wound up having to replace the rev sensor. You can leave it unplugged and it will drop your gas mileage down some or you can spend about $150 buck's at the dealer and be done with it. The revolution sensor is mounted on the driver side rear (on the side) of the trans. You will have to take of the transmission mount and push trans toward the pass. side. It took about 90 minute's to replace mine. I do not have a lift. I was on the ground. Hope this help's.

If I remember correctly the computer defaults to the speed sensor to pick up the shift points... I lost about 4-5 mpg when I unplugged mine also. I'm not saying that it's not possible to drive around with it unplugged, but I know people that change their oil every 15,000 miles and their car still runs too. I just wouldn't recommend it...JMHO... I would think that the fix would pay for itself in the savings in gas mileage in a short time. I will say that the overdrive has a tough time with the sensor unplugged. It wants to kick down at the slightest push of the gas. Hope everything works out.
