I had my timing belt and water pump replaced yesterday. Everything is great, the car has more power, it runs smoothly, couldn't be happier on that end. One thing i did notice is that the car now warms up very fast (and i mean very fast).

Before I had the work done, the J would take about 7+ minutes to reach operating temperature (sometimes more). Now it takes less than 2 minutes. I did not have the thermostat replaced, only the water pump. The car does not overheat and the fan does not run excessively either. Does this sound like a normal warm up time for this car? I'm wondering if my thermostat was stuck open and now it is working or maybe even partially closed?? Thanks!

Wow! You paid for all that labor and didn't get the $8 thermostat replaced at the same time?

My 94 when I got it wouldn't ever really warm up. The air would never get but just a little warm and the needle would barely move off of cold. Got the thermostat replaced and now it warms up in just a few minutes.

i am getting ready to change my timing belt and i noticed that draining some or all the coolant in the car is necessary so you may want to make sure that they filled your coolant level to the correct level. But i agree it would have been good to change the thermostat, dont forget to check your fluid levels.

Yeah, i'm just going to change the t-stat myself. I'm also thinking that one or more of my valve control solenoids may have gone bad since I had the work done. Now the car sounds like a diesel for the first 10 mins of driving or so, never did that before.

Normally and this may be because of the climate up here, it takes me at least 15 minutes for my J to warm up. Always has since new.
