How long do Ka24's typically run for?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

Hello all, I'm looking at buying a '96 240sx with 144,000 miles... is that too much? How long do these engines typically last?? Do you think it will need to be rebuilt?? What/where can i check on the car to tell if it has been dogged-out or not??

Your help will be greatly appreciated.-noob

i beat the shizt's out of every car i drive...they are machines and made for it..besides..life is way to short to be afraid of things and what if's...just learn to properly maintain your ride..allso the ka24e and de are truck motor's in a way..and can take heaps of punnishment.

As long as you take care of it you should have the life of the car. Proper maintence, oil changes, occaisionally additives, and good quality gas, etc...i have a 99 altima that my wife drives and I've run full synthetic, lucas additive, and good gas and she runs like shes brand new....the car runs good too.

the old lady that had the car befor me neglected it for the most part. when i got it the valve cover had a bunch of cracks in it and was leakin oil all over. The spark plugs had almost no electrode left on em in the center. The dizz and rotor were fairly burnt up and had a crap ton of carbon build up on em and was only running on 3 cylinders due to a dead no 4 injector and the top timing chain guide had been worn through and was actully riding on top of the timing chain.

But despite all this the car still make the 150 mile trip back to my house with out any problems. Since then i have changed and flushed all fluids , installed a new valve cover / plugs / dizz etc etc and it still runs just fine.

the KA is a tough a** engine IMO

I have 126k on my KAde and it runs perfect. I run only senthetic Mobile 1 and the occasional Lucus products every other oil change. If you really wanna know the condition of the engine you could pull out one of the spark plugs and take a look at its condition. If you know the signs to look for on a used plug it will tell you a lot about the engine's condition internally.

compression check, get one at advanced auto should have one for free your reading should be around 125-155 the higher the better it is. check the oil to see is low or dirty like dark as hail lol just to see how well the car has been maintanded.check for smoke rev the engine and get when you do.then check the idle shou;ld be 750 - 1000 is good. oil leaks .... get under the car!!!
