Hey I would just like to know how long do coilovers last I've heard any where from 1 to 5 years. If you have coilovers please post what kind and how long you've had them. Oh yeah and one more thing if you do track events or push them hard let me know thanks. I'm tring to pick between a shock/spring combo and a coilover set up

Bueller....? Bueller...? Bueller...? As much as people go on about coilovers and 240SX's, you'd think this thread would be crammed with win...

are you askign about the dampers or the springs? the springs in theory will last indefinitely, even if you were to colaps a springs new ones are only abour $40 each in your choice of spring rate and free length, the shocks themselves will vary greatly, what kind of valving, what spring rates they are run with etc, the higher the spring trate in gereral the shorter the laftspan of the shock, quality units are rebuildable, Koni, Penske, Carerra, ADS etc

It depends on how hard you pound them and what type of coilovers you get... Usually what fails is the damper, mainly leaking or blowing.

Japanese coilovers aren't very predictable, because the quality check and inspection of all the items are small to non existent for most companies, as well as barely or no R & D. But its hit or miss, excluding ksports, i'd say 2-4 years with daily use and tracking at least 5-10 times a year. Over 4 if you don't track all the time and keep the miles down or under 5000 miles a year. And again, this could all be way off if you daily on smoother roads than someone else with tons of potholes and unfinished roads.

Keep in mind, this is MY OPINION based on previous events and a lot of reading. Don't take this as fact, because i can only guess. But overall, 1-5 years is a decent overall estimate.

You get a nice quality coilover, whihch usually are in excess of $2000 or even custom deal with konis or bilsteins with the correct spring rates to match, they can be the best setup which will last over a good amount of time with a good deal of abuse. Mainly because these are valve PROPERLY.
