after you put a new /japan takout engine in it?

I've been looking for an engine and t\nobody seems to have any around here.

so I am starting to weigh the pros and cons.Is there anybody here who has had to put a takeout engine in a q45? if so, how many miles has it lasted so far? HAs anyone ever had a replacement engine fail. Its a tough proposition to spend $4000 replacing an engine then having it only last 3000 miles.

Luckily, the infiniti dealership here only charges $1500 to install a used engine in a q45, so if I can find a used engine shipped for about a grand, it will come to about $2500 for the whole deal. Thats doable.

We pay between $2,000 and $2400 for used Quality Q engines [delivered to our shop] then we perform about $1500-$2,000 worth of R&R to the engine getting it ready to install, then the swap say $5,700-$6,000 [plus tax] for a job done right!

A used engine will have lots of issues, even a low mileage one.All the under plenum rubber hoses and harnesses [plus ks need attention, new water pump new front and rear seals, reseal valve covers, oil sensor, CHAIN GUIDE INSPECTION and replacement if needed.........this is how you get another 60,000-100,000 miles of service.

We have been doing replacements since 1997 and have completed over 30 to my knowlege we have never had a failure [but customers come and go and cars get sold].We have some customers with 5 years on swapped engines!

A well maintained engine with the Premium oil changed every 90 days can easily last 250,000 miles and perform as brand new.

Don't get into a cheapo slam bam thank you sir swap [no R&R] that will nickel and dime you forever.....a $500 rear main reseal, $400 front main reseal, a $700 valve cover reseal, a $700 plenum hose leak, $1000 knock sensor replacement, etc.........have all these things done when the replacement engine is on the ground at one time when the work is easy and takes 1/4 the time compared to doing it installed in the car!

Many customers ask us for a cheapo swap because they want to sell the car ....we refuse because they want to USE our reputation for quality as a selling tool.

We reject quite a few engines [almost all domestic junk yard units have broken chain guides] and hold out for Japanese take outs which are getting rarer and rarer [pay top dollar].........the freight from CA port to AR will be $500 alone.

See we warranty our work for 12k/12 months [but not any items we didn't change] if an injector fails on the replacement engine it is customer nickel unless they paid for all to be replaced with new [$1700]...........we try to select the best looking parts from the 2 engines with customer consultation

longrunQ, what ever happened to your car? I don't recall reading any tragedies, only that you're looking for a new engine. Very curious. Post or email me directly [email protected]. Thanks.

hi daedalus,

my car started knocking/ticking one night and by the next day, the engine had locked.

The engineer suspects the oil pump failed.

The oil pumps never fails: the chain that drives them may break [or slip on the crankshaft] or the clearances get get excessive from grinding up bits and pieces.

( 9 out of 10 times failure to properly tighten the crank pulley is the cause )

Owner abuse of machines should be a felony.......and in a way it is, because the replacement extracts a severe monetary fine and some time without your liberty [unless you have an extra car]......so you could say you were put on probation.

Some owners learn from their first Felony and many are repeat offenders never learning.........kind of a 3 strikes you are financially out situation.

The longest to date a Japanese take out has lasted is around 165,000 miles on the T3 400,000 mile mobile........there is no reason why they all shouldn't go 250,000 miles in total but of course owners can destroy anything fast.....Just turned 246,000 miles today in 13 years and 2 months....4800 days.....20,000 cranks minimum
